I have been trying to create a fusion design from a 1.6GB stp file, but keep on running into this error. Does anyone know if there is a fix?

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for asking about that.

The file size seems to be quite large.

Have you tried to import the file through the A360 cloud and convert it from there into an Fusion 360 design?

Please, feel free to share your file with us that we can check if it might be corrupted.

Thank you and best regards,

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately I'm under NDA for this job (and pretty much every job for
this client) - would it be OK if we continued this via email?

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for the update.

No problem, let´s test a couple things to find out the root cause of the issue.

  • Have you had a chance to re-open the file in the CAD system from where it has been exported? This would give us an idea if the file may has been corrupted within the export.
  • Do you may have a chance to share an example file with us where you run into the same issue?
  • Could you may check the file itself before the export? There might certain feature like "fully modeled threads" which create a lot of faces = data
  • Is it possible to split up the export file into smaller pieces of 50-100 mb?

Thanks for the help, keep me updated?

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately I can't check the file - this is the only CAD system I have
access to. However I will suggest that they supply the file in smaller
parts as that seems to be the most sensible option. I'll keep you updated.

Cheers
Dan
