Extracting boundary of a stl image (it is a CT-scan of a fractured rock sample)

Hi all,

I am relatively new to Fusion 360 and what I am trying to do is to extract the boundary of a stl image. What I have is a CT-scan image of a cylindrical-shaped fractured rock specimen with D=38 mm and L=50 mm. The stl images are produced using a very small region of the fractured specimen 2mm-by-2mm. As you can imagine, the surface of the stl image is very rough so I cannot reduce the number of mesh and transform it into a BRep file. All I want is to extract the boundary of my stl image as a combination of some lines. I am attaching a photo of my stl file so that you get a better sense of what actually it looks like.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Whether Fusion 360 is a god tool for your application really depends on what else you want to do with this mesh.

Autodesk Meshmixer might be a better alternative for this work
