Exporting STL ignores imported STL mesh

Hello everyone,

I tried for hours now to export my finished model and whatever I do, a part of my model (that is an imported STL) just gets ignored by Fusion 360!
I found one video on youtube where someone uses an Autodesk program for converting STL using REMAKE which unfortunately is not available for Mac anymore.......

So how can I finally get my full model without half of it missing??
Thank you in advance!

How big is the STL? If it's less than 50,000 (IIRC) facets then you should be able to convert it to a BRep.

How did you import the STL? Is it linked to the original file?

What file format are you exporting?

FWIW, I'm not having any trouble importing an STL as a mesh then exporting as an archive file or as another STL.

Where can I see the size? It is actually pretty big. I do not have an option for converting to BRep.

Right click on the mesh body in the Browser.  Select Properties.

  1. You need to be in Direct Modeling mode in order to convert to BRep.
  2. Import the STL into a new file.
  3. Click on the top node in the Browser.
  4. Click on "Do not capture Design history".  This will put you in Direct Modeling mode.

You should now have an option to convert to BRep.  If the conversion is successful, copy the BRep component into your main file.

Thank you! It's somewhere around 36k facets.
Adding it to a new file and disabling the design history shows the option of BRep conversion. I started it but it seems to take several minutes.
Let's see.

If you are trying to export as an STL, then the imported STL must be a subcomponent of the component to be exported. If you want the entire file exported, then selecting the top node in the Browser will allow you to do this, otherwise you'll need to organize the model so all of the components to be exported are subcomponents of the same parent.  If you are attempting to export bodies, see Rule #1.

I want to export everything except one thing that is hidden (with the light bulb).
I'll try the selecting-top-node method 🙂

Try using the online dashboard, https://myhub.autodesk360.com/g/all_projects/active

Make sure you've saved the design with only the parts you want in the stl visible. Open the part in the online viewer then request an stl file as the download.

Thanks for posting this - it worked! All I can say is that thus far Fusion 360 has been painfully unintuitive and horrible to use. Workarounds like this shouldn't be necessary for basic functions.

This is a really silly solution - the software should have this capacity, not a bandaid like this.

FusionTeam - this should be properly addressed!
