Exporting STL from Fusion into Meshmixer hiccup

Hey all,

I have a problem that has been stumping me for two days now.  I have a cupholder I have designed in Fusion 360, and am wanting to 3D print it.  Whenever I export the file, whether saving directly to hard drive or trying to export into Meshmixer, the file is exported at an awkward angle and I can NEVER get it to rest on the bed correctly in order to add the needed supports.  It seems somehow or another the body in fusion has been adjusted from the typical bottom plane and causes it to export incorrectly... is there an easy way to re-assign surfaces so that the model exports in the orientation I would prefer?

Thank you for your post in the Forum.
It would be great if you could share your design with me.

  • Could you share a "Public Link" of your design via "Private Message"
  • It would be great if you could record a unlisted Screencast and share it with us
Please, keep me updated.
I hope this information helps.

Thank you for your interest Mike!  I did manage to fix my issue a day or so after posting this.  What I did was reoriented my top view, and then sketched a box on a flat plane and then used the align tool to reorient the object to this plane.  Is this the easiest way to do this though?  I was just digging to try to get this object to print.  I'm really not sure how it even got so far off axis..

Hi @nismota_3d,

Thanks for the Update.

Your work around sounds like the fastest way to achieve your goal.

Please, let me know if you run into this issue again.

Thank you,

Hi Tim,

Thanks again for sharing your design.

I guess this due to the errors in the timeline itself.

I have tried to repair your design but I have identified multiple overlapping and intersecting faces.

Could you may go back into your design and repair the issues in timeline?

We might want to try it again 😉

Thanks,

Hey Mark,

Yes I am finding this out when trying to 3D print the object as well... it is deleting certain faces that are overlapping but I don't physically see them in the model in Fusion so I'm having a hard time getting rid of the issue... I will try again and see what I can do.

Thanks for all your help Mike.
