Exporting some items as STEP, but not all items

Hello,

I have a complicated design file here and I need to send three parts out in the same step model to a sub contractor to look at.

I can right click the component and select export, which exports just that one item, or I can do file > export in the menu, which exports everything in the entire design file.

How do I select three items and export them as a step so they all export in one file?

I have tried selecting the components I need and right clicking in the tree, but the export option is greyed out.

Thanks,

Pete.

  1. Create a new component and call it "Export for XYZ company.
  2. Copy/Paste the components you want to export into that new component, which makes it an assembly or component group.
  3. Then export that component group.

Hmm, that sounds really messy. I don't really want a component hanging
around that is not up to date, and will only be used once for one export.

Surely there must be a way to do it properly?

@Anonymous:  You can control what gets exported to STEP with simple visibility.  Any components which are invisible are not exported.  So, just make the components you want to export visible, and everything else invisible, and export as STEP.

Ha, I'd never tried that. So @Anonymous create a selection set for that 😉
