exporting 2d drawings as a dxf file?

Is it possible yet to export 2d drawings created in fusion as a dxf file?  I know that you can export sketches as dxf from the model, but I am looking to actually use the fusion 2d drawing that I create and export as a dxf.

Are there any addons for doing this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Chad,

Try the way over the dwg export. Export your drawing as dwg and then open it in a dxf environment.

Maybe you have to use a dwg dxf converter.

This depends on the version of the file and the application you were working with.

Thank you for your response, as I do know that there are ways to convert from dwg to dxf, but I am wondering whether Fusion 360 specifically, is able to convert the drawing into a dxf format.  Is this something that the software at this point is not capable of?

I do have inventor currently, but I am hoping to avoid extra steps in getting to the dxf file.  Our CAM package that I am trying to go to does not seem to like the .DWG format from fusion.

@nmi, Exporting to DXF from Fusion 360 drawing hasn't been supported yet, but it's in our short term planning now.

Before it's done, we need to export it as DWG file which has limitation that only be supported for some Autodesk products, could use Inventor (save as DXF file from it), or DWG TrueView (which could convert DWG to older versions).

We understand it's not convenient at all, and it's very important to providing good quality DXF file from Fusion360 drawing directly. Thanks for checking!

I have the exact same problem as described in the beginning and I am astonihed that f360 is not capable of perfoming this export.

Can you please specify "short term" in your development process context?

What about now, are you able to layer dxf's?

Ran into this demand today and would like to second the request for this feature. Has this already been implemented so far? Thanks Fusion team!

I second the request.  We need to send DXF files to our laser vendor.  We like to do the layout as a drawing and then convert the file.  We can do that in CREO with no issues, but Fusion 360 won't do it.

The team is just beginning to work on this feature, so stay tuned. You can always find out what the Drawings team is actively working on by visiting this roadmap as well: https://app.mural.co/t/timerahart2/m/timerahart2/1475171276107/0945259b7c22117012173ea2be3c9151fec1...

I guess I can't complain, Fusion360 is the most affordable CAD software for what it does.  But does seem strange that dxf export is not an option for drawings.  I do drawing work on the side, not even full time, and I've pretty much never had a situation where I didn't need a dxf drawing to supply to a vendor.  Seems pretty standard.  At least it's on the roadmap 🙂

I am having the same issue, so when I saw this thread and it was marker solved I was hopeful of a solution. This has not been solved, say no we cant export DXF files but you can convert them using some other software is not a solution. Please get the real solution in place.

But Dwg trueview is PC only, so if you are a mac user you have to purchase another Autodesk product to be able to use the "dwg" output from Fusion 360, which obviously is not actually a real .dwg file as it can only be opened with Autodesk products!. why call it a dwg file if it doens't comply to the dwg standards that other applications can open

@nigel2XP5X , the dwg that comes out of Fusion is the "real" dwg,  based on AutoCAD. Third party software packages have not updated their dwg readability functionality to handle full dwg's which include 3D view geometry which is why they fail, unfortunately.

If you stay up to date with the public roadmap that's posted here, you'll also note that we are currently working on a dumbed-down version of a dwg and dxf export that will work with third party applications, which should satisfy everyone's needs here when it's released.

I am running both the current version of vector works and the current version of Macdraft, I am trying to open a 2d drawing that is in dwg exported from fusion 360. I am trying to do this because I cant export a dxf file as requested by a sub contractor, I can create a dxf from a skectch and from a flattened sheet metal file but I cant produce a dxf of a 2d drawing. I am macb based so DWG True view wont run on a mac, I have installed it on a PC but can only find other autocad versions to save it as I cant find anything about dxf files. I have tried auto cad viewer but cant save it as anything. Why do I need the all singing and dancing auto desk product to open a 2d dwg file so I can convert it to dxf which you would have thought could be exported anyway. I solved the problem by redrawing the bracket in macdraft, produced a dxf from it and sent them that. I have a happy sub contract by not using your applications
