Export model and related drawings

Hi,

I'm struggling with exporting a model with multiple related drawings.

I know a deep copy function ( like pack and go) is already on the road map, but I need a work around on short term.

Definition of the problem:

We designed a gearset, with all CAM tool-paths and related drawings (8 separate drawings, because multi-sheet isn't available right now).

If I want to create almost exactly the same part, but only a different ratio, I'm forced to create all 8 drawings again. The engineering hours to create a new (but almost similar part) are way too long now.

I've tried to export the 3d model, but then only related parts are in the archive folder. If I export a 2D drawing, I've 1 2D drawing and 1 3D model in the archive folder.

I'm wondering if it is possible on short term to include all related drawings in the archive folder. This will save us a lot of hours work. Hopefully it will all be easier with the deep copy function, but in the meanwhile I'm searching for a workaround.

If someone knows a better way of exporting the 3d model with all related drawings, please let me know.

@Timon-

This is a great question...I have looked into this about a month ago but found no solution and even a few tests I just did nothing worked.

Lets see is the support guys have any answers.

Hi @Timon-,

This is a great question! Just a few follow up questions for you - I'm assuming you want the association with the original part to stay the same, correct? For instance, you have an archive folder of a model and 8 drawings (all associated to the drawing) and then you upload all of these as a "copy" if you will of the originals. Then, you change the new, copied part and the drawings update accordingly, correct?

If that is the case - I am unsure of a workaround at this time, but I can test some more. I just tried some minor tests and the associativity of the drawings are always linked to the original part file - not the copy.

Let me ask around with some members of the drawing team and see if I can come up with a better answer!

Thanks,

Hi @James.Youmatz

Thanks for replying.

So, I have 1 model, with 8 drawings.

I export the archive, and import it on a different location.

Now if I change the imported model, I can change the model, and the drawings are updated accordingly.

My original model is not changed. (see attached screencast).

This workaround will work for me, but I need to be able to add all 8 drawings in the archive, instead of only 1.

@TrippyLighting,

Because you know a lot about Fusion360 and possible workflows, do you have any info on this?

As you problably will understand, I need to draw 8 new drawings every single time I want to make a new part, even when I only want to change 1 radius or ratio.

Hello,

I have the same problem... I want to create a model that is slightly different to the original one, which has several drawings linked to it. If I create a copy of the model, it seems there is no possibility to copy the linked drawing along. Or is there a solution for this kind of case yet?

I guess it could be made by saving different versions and promoting and demoting the different versions to create the drawings, but that seems a little confusing, especially to other people who have to work with the model and drawings.

If this has not been implemented, I would propose to implement that function, as

- it can save users hours of work to create new drawings of similar models

- it should definitely be possible to implement
