Enlarging a body

Hello

First of all, sorry for my bad english.. I hope you can understand what i mean.

I bought a model of a phone case online. For the oneplus 7 PRO. I want to modify it, but i dont know how. I hope you guys can teach/explain me 🙂

- The underside has this ugly relief that i dont want. I just want a smooth backside. I tried to cut it with an extrusion but i get an error.. I will include the error on the end of this post.

- The walls are 1,3mm thick. I would like it to be 2mm. Is there a way to make this happen? without the inside getting smaller??

Thank you verry much!

Error; Error: There was a problem combining geometry together.
If attempting a Join/Cut/Intersect, try to ensure that the bodies have a clear overlap (problems can occur where faces and edges are nearly coincident).

cant cutcant cutrelief i dont likerelief i dont like

I didn't realize that you have surface bodies.

What was the original format of the file? *.stp?

First thing I would do is Delete all of the unwanted surfaces and then attempt to Patch and Stitch.

See Attached file.

Yeah it was .stp. Is this a problem? I have multiple options to choose from.

See the file that I attached to previous post.

The next thing I would do is attempt to Thicken or Press Pull to get desired thickness.

I unstitched your imported surfaces.

Then I crossing window selected everything that I wanted to keep and turned off visibility.

Then I crossing window selected everything that I wanted to erase and clicked Delete.
Then made visible the remaining geometry and restitched.

Created Patch to close the opening.

Stitched it all to a solid.

3 minutes and done.

You will have to find the technique to thicken or press pull.

.stp was definitely the right format if you wanted to work with it in Fusion 360.

Many of the other formats are mesh formats as opposed to BRep/NURBS formats.

It isn't a bad thing that you have surfaces. These can be stitched with the so-called tool in the Surface tab. However, hold off on that. First you'll need to delete all these wavy surfaces on the bottom. Then you can stitch the rest and use the patch to close the bottom of your model. In the screencast, after patching the bottom I us the surface split to "cut" the camera hole.

Be careful when deleting surfaces. I am deliberately not attaching the model so you can get some practice for future projects.

Simply using the press/pull tool to increase the wall thickness is not going to work (at least not in my quick test). That will require some more modeling work and if I am successful a second screencast.

I have "succesfully" thickened the case. I used inventor because fusion was refusing to let me use the press pull tool.

So thats another problem solved. But now i have to make a curve between the old case and the enlarged case. And suggestions how i can achieve this?

Thanks again for all the help i revieced! I really appreciate it!

I have also added the *f3d so you can admire my creation 😂

If you inspect some of the other areas of that model you'll find a few other problems 😉

While Inventor aloud you to pull out that surface, it created quite few undesirable areas. IMHO you'll have to learn how to work with surfaces and a few other techniques in Fusion 360 (or Inventor for that matter) if you really want to have a good model with good geometry.

What I was trying to say is that I would be interested in continuing this and helping, provided you are interested in not giving up 😉
