Engrave Text

Can I engrave text in Fusion 360?  I want to make a little 3 x 5 inch panel out of two color plastic so when you engrave through the top layer, the letters are the color of the layer underneath.  Just like an engraved luggage tags. My panel will have a selector switch and some LEDs, so I just want to engrave text that will indicate what everything does.  I also want Fusion to do the CAM for the holes in the panel and the cut it out, but that part is simple.

In a sketch text can be exploded into curves and those curves can be used in CAM for machining. You will get an outline though, not single curve center line text.

Thanks.  Also, is there a way to center the text around on a construction line?  I see there is a construction line box around the text when it's created, so I'd like to constrain the midpoint of the top horizontal construction line to a vertical construction line on my sketch.  This way if I change the text, it will stay centered.

When you explode the text there are no constrains on the text at all. It's probably best to position the text before you explode it, if you draw a diagonal line from corner to corner of the rectangle you can use it's mid point to centre the text.

Hi Scott,

It's possible to import single line text as an svg, then do trace cnc operations (I haven't fully tried this yet).

This video gives a great free way to generate a variety of single line text svg, and also get curves instead of line segments:

Let me know if you run into trouble.

I'm trying to do the CAM for engraving text and I'm having some trouble.  The cutter is making a lot of passes before it gets to the surface of my material, but I can't figure out how to fix it.  I've shared my model here:

I think I found it, change the ramp clearance height from 0.1 in to 0.01 in
