Enable feature edition by double clicking on it in 3D space
This feature is not available as you suggested but you can double click on any feature in the design space Timeline to edit it.

No, because double-clicking on geometry in the viewport selects the component that geometry is located in.
I guess you'll just have to deal it it 😉
I just noticed that my original video did not show all the editing dialog boxes when I double-clicked on features in the timeline. I am posting another to make my process clearer.
