editing original orientation of a part

Hi,

When sharing models from user to another, or from one cad to another one, it happened that Orientation are not the same.

I was wondering if there is a simple way to edit the original orientation of a model in order to comply to design rules.

Even going through a neutral format and loosing all the history...

if you don't care about losing history, you can just dump it and go to DM mode and move the body to the origin.

another option-

when exporting either a step file or a mesh file, the origin exported with the model will be the one at the level your exporting from.  so if you joint a component to the models origin  (or where ever), and then right click at the top level, the resulting file will have it's origin at the models origin.  if you right click on the component instead, then the resulting file will have the origin at the components origin.

Move/Rotate as needed relative to XYZ (ignore View Cube labels like Top or Front as those can be change and are just label.  XYZ is the datum.)

Attach your file here if you can’t figure it out.

No need to destroy history (in the original file).

I like to use the Align command to reorient an imported STEP file to the origin.  The Align command has the ability to snap between construction planes and origin planes, as well as other key points, making it very versatile in aligning components.  Take a look at the Screencast to see the process.  The STEP file is attached if you would like to follow along.
