edit a projection

Hi

I'm new at this. I have designed a box without a lid and projected an insert which will go inside the box. I am wanting to edit the insert and adjust the size so it has a bit of clearance around the sides and edit the corner radius without editing the box. I hope that's clear what I'm trying to do

Hi,

"Project" ( P ) is your friend & uncheck "projection link".

You can also right click on the selected projected sketch and select break link.

just keep in mind that unchecking the projection link, or unlinking will break the parametric connection between the shape of the box and the lid.  if that's what you want, then it's not a problem.

my personal preference for designs like this is to use a skeleton sketch.  keeping shared elements between components one level up in he browser hierarchy cuts down on cross component referencing, which in turn makes more complicated design WAY more easy to trouble shoot.

for tolerance on an object like this you can just offset that faces at the end. (see last feature in attached.)

FYI-if you just want to put a static image in the post, it's not necessary to go thru the screen casting jive.  just paste the image in from your clipboard after capturing a screen shot, or use the camera icon to embed a picture file

There's probably something I'm missing here, but I'm surprised that the consensus seems to be to break the projection link. For reasons explained above, that's usually a bad idea.

What to do instead? Well, you can Offset the projected bottom in your sketch, for one. Or you can Offset Faces and add Fillets to the extruded insert.
