Easiest way to remove shape from cylinder

I am VERY new to fusion and I need some assistance with removing a specific shape/sketch from the side of a cylinder.

I can create a sketch and a cylinder correctly with the proper dimensions but I need to remove the sketched shape from the surface of the cylinder. Put simply I need to carve my shape into the surface of my cylinder.

Like I said, I'm very new to this and would greatly appreciate some detailed advice.

Thank you in advance!

Hi snook55,

When you talk about the carving, do you want to cut the cylinder along the normal of cylindrical face or just along the normal of sketch plane? If the former, I’m thinking we may use Split Face + Offset Face tools for the purpose.

Would you attach some screenshots for your models so we may provide more detailed information?

Hello,

I prepared a set of three examples (revolve, extrude, sweep on the projected geometry) how to modify cylindrical face.

Of course, there are more ways.

just a quick question after using your instructions. I tried your method while using a construction plane tangent to the cylinder. but when i use the extrude comand to "Cut" into the surface of the cylinder it does not "cut" away material at a uniform depth. as you can see from the picture i have atached the extrude comand does not contore to the surface of the cylinder.

thanks again all the asistance

Hello,

I prepared the video with example of work flow how to create groove with constant depth.

I used two ways, extrude and revolve. The result of each feature is different in the angle of sides.

in case you need extruded groove style. Just create extrude of one wide groove, pattern it along cylinder. The last thing I would extrude the long groove across pattern.

Martin
