DXF OF FLAT PATTERN

What is the best way to create a .dxf of the flat pattern of a sheet metal model?

Is there a way to the hide bend lines for .dxf export so that only the geometry that is to be laser cut or etched is exported?

Thank you

I answered in your post on the design forum but I'll add it here as well.

If you have the sheet metal preview, activate the flat pattern, create a sketch and project the edges and bend lines then export like any other sketch. There are no line types so you might need to edit in another program.

PS of course the best way is to create a 2d drawing but unless you have autocad no one can open it for editing. What do you need to do with the drawing, can you use a PDF or view and print from DWG Trueview.

I need to create a .dxf for my guys to program for the laser. Since there is no Trumpf post for Fusion we are using Sigma Nest.

So creating a sketch and exporting with the flat pattern active will give you the outline. Then I guess you'll need a 2d drawing of the flat pattern for bending. I think I've done a screencast on creating a 2d drawing of the flat pattern but the screencast site is dead at the moment. Let me know if you'd find it helpful and I'll add it when they've fixed the problem with the screencast web site.

@bryan5,

Have you reached out to the CAM team about creating a Trumpf post?

Regards,

Mike

I have tried with no success Mike.

I have posted it as an idea in the autodesk post area and in the cam area here on Fusion 360.

I have posted a sample post so that it can be referenced to produce a post for Fusion 360.

I have posted a few times for post for my machines. A post for Flow waterjet has come out which I am testing right now. First part I ran, ran without problems so kudos on that to the Autodesk team.

Here are links to some of my posts:

The process of creating a perfect sheet metal part is trial and error.  To have to Export the flat pattern to en external file and then bring it in again is untenable.  Going through that process over and over again is not going to work.  It is very unlikely that Fusion is going to be a valid substitute for SheetCAM in the near future.

Also, the DXF created from the exported sketch is not valid.
