DXF file reduced by 10:1

Hi,

a couple of times recently I have emailed a DXF file that was exported from a fusion design. In both cases the DXF files opened in the steel vendors system at 1:10 size? Is there a setting that I am missing?

Thanks

Craig

And you can use the Drawing environment as an AID to communication via a saved .pdf file

Hi,

I resent the steel supplier copies of the Fusion generated drawing files as PDFs and the confusion has been cleared. I am now confident his quote genuinely reflects the parts that I want.

I have incorrectly assumed that a dxf file would show a representation of a 3D object in the same way as a drawing. Clearly dxf files are very much more basic than I imagined.

I had occasion to send a file to a tool and die company to have some machining done on a part for me about a fortnight ago. I sent them a dxf of the Fusion generated drawing, but that showed the same 10:1 scaling. As they had the physical part it was very clear that there had been some sort of scaling snafu, they scaled the dxf file and were then able to generate the tool path. The company gave me a choice of file formats to send, including dxf. It would appear that dxf is NOT the same as a 3D model.

Thanks for everyones help. In this case it has been 'educating a newbie' out of his preconceptions.

Good news!...and as a side note you could consider HD Plasma. In 16mm plate (hat Grade BTW?)  the edge finish may be equal to or better than laser and importantly where I am here in Sydney it would be significantly cheaper.

Hi,

to be honest I thought the company used plasma, but the quote definitely says laser. Last week I had a piece of 32mm cut and that was done with oxy-acet.

I think the company has all three and I just let them choose. I have used their services on and off over three years and in every case the cut surface has always be adequate. The last time I was there i learned that that can also bevel cut edges, just the ticket if you are going to weld everything together afterwards.

The outstanding feature is that they are 350m away from where I work. Talk about convenient!
