DWG title block insert fail

Hi everybody.

I hope you can help me. I need to update execisting drawings with a new custom title block.

I have created a new drawing template in Fusion and exported to dwg format. but when i change the title block, nothing appears. (first image).

I have checked the dwg in autodesk viewer and the title block is included, second image).

I have tried to see if it is possible to change the drawing template, but this does not seem to be the case.

I'm not able to save a local f2t file either to import back in.

Am I doing something wrong or is there another way, so I don't need to redo all drawings.

dwg file included for others to test.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Hi carstenTTWAF,

Provided the drawing you are working on and the template with the title block you want are of the same standard/units, you can do this.

1. Open the drawing (f2d)

2. In the sheet bar at the bottom, right-click a sheet > Add Sheet

3. Expand "From" then browse to and select the template (f2t) > OK

This will add a new sheet based on the template/sheet you selected.  This also adds the title block to the drawing so it can be used on other sheets (you'll see it in Sheet Settings > Title Block).  Unfortunately if the standard/units are not the same in the drawing/template, this won't work, you'll need to re-create the title block.  We currently don't support a type of block library for use across all drawings.

Output DWG from the toolbar is a one-way trip out of Fusion, which exports the entire drawing, not just the title block, so this won't work if you try to Add it as a title block using he From DWG File option.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Chris

@cmiller66 Thank you for the answer.

sorry for the long reply time.

Using your method, I was able to add a new sheet with the updated title block. However the drawing template does not appear in the sheet settings.

The sheet is the same size and units.

Hi carstenTTWAF,

We don't support importing an actual template into another drawing.  Besides the title block itself are there other settings you want to import that can't set in the current drawing?

Thanks,

Chris

@cmiller66 well, that might be why i can't get it to work.

I just need to update the title block on the older drawings. But it's not showing up in the title block pane under sheet settings. only if i make a new drawing. and i got about 50 drawings in need of update.

Hi carstenTTWAF,

That list of available title blocks reflects the current drawing only, it's not a library of title blocks available across drawings.  For each of the existing drawings you have you'll need to repeat the process you did last time.  Add a new sheet from the template with the title block you want, that adds the block definition to that drawing, then you can delete that new sheet.

Thanks,

Chris

@cmiller66

Thank you for your reply.

But there must be something I'm missing. when i do what you describe i get a new sheet with the new title block, it does not allow me to change the title block on the existing (old) sheet with the finished drawing.

Am i doing it wrong?

Hi carstenTTWAF,

You may not be doing something wrong, it's possible there's a bug here, but I just wanted to confirm the workflow.

In this case, I have opened my existing drawing, then added a new sheet (Sheet 2) with the new title block, and when I switch back to Sheet 1, it is available for insert:

It sounds like this is not working the same way for you?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi @cmiller66

well, yeah. it might be a bug, i don't know.

but after trying on a different drawing this morning, the new title block got inserted into the old sheet. but with the attributes missing, or rather haven't loaded the new ones. Though it seems that if I:

- go into the edit title block mode and out of it,

- close and save the drawing,

- open it up again

- this corrects it self to some degree. But it still wont correct the pre-entered values.

Date of issue and belt ref number still has issues.

doi: is from the new. it should say 2019

brn: should be emty, but it refers to an old attribute.

Edit mode (double click):

Edit title block mode:

but that is a few small bugs i guess.
