Drawings - Hidden line selection

Hi,

I'm currently creating assembly drawings from animations, which is a really great new feature!

However, i'd like to know whether it's possible to show hidden lines for only selected bodies. At present, it seems that i can show hidden lines for ALL bodies in the assembly, but this makes the drawings too complex, with lines going everywhere.

So i'd like to be able to select which bodies in the assembly i show hidden lines for, in much the same way as you can choose which lines, faces, bodies you wish to project onto a sketch. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Cheers,

Alex

Hi Alex,

Glad to hear you're liking the new feature! Just curious, are you creating exploded views for assembly instructions or are you capturing components in different positions (e.g. open vs closed)?

Regarding the ability to show hidden lines for selected components, this is currently not possible. As you mentioned, you are limited to the entire drawing view. Your request is also the first for this enhancement, so I will add it to our backlog. And in the meantime, if you could add your request to the idea station, that would be great.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the reply

I'm actually using it to create patent drawings, so i'm doing some exploded views, as well as trying to illustrate movement, which is why i want to be able to almost see through the assembly to show how just one component moves relative to another, for which the ability to select which hidden lines i show would be really useful.

Also, at present the home view for drawings seems to be defined by the home view in the model workspace, not the animation workspace, which makes finding the perfect angle for an exploded view quite difficult (because it isn't exploded in the model space and therefore appears differently).

It seems that as a result i have to save a different file for each angle that i want to create a drawing from, which makes it fairly time consuming and also fairly hard to keep a track of all the files i'm creating. In the animation mode i'm able to create a different home view for each storyboard. If it was possible to create drawings from these storyboard home views, that would make life a lot easier.

I've seen other requests relating to patent drawings, such as having the ability to add better annotations, hatchings and export the drawings in different file types, but for me these seem to be the areas that haven't yet been mentioned.

I'll add my request to the ideastation, and see if anyone else agrees!

Thanks again,

Alex

I understand what you're looking for and in fact I do need that feature for some situations but for the foreseeable future, I doubt you'll see it as the drawings team got a lot of essential backlog feature that they need to do first.

So right now, we'll have to live with the features that's available now.
