Drawing settings

Hi,

Why does my File menu not resemble the one shown in help?

In particular - I cannot find "Drawing settings". There are also some things that do not appear in the help illustration ("request quotes" , "3d print" & "capture image").

I am in the trial period with 9 days left to go and the software is up-to-date.

Regards,

Brett

Hi Brett,

Sorry for the confusion. We've had an issue with this help page and as a result it hasn't been updated to reflect recent changes made to Drawing Settings. We are working on getting the page updated.

So instead of going into the File menu to access Drawing Settings, the Navigation Bar at the bottom of the drawing window now contains Drawing Settings. The last 2 buttons; Annotation Settings and Sheet Settings now contain everything previously found within the Drawing Settings dialog box. Unlike the old dialog box, changes made to the settings are immediately applied to your drawing.

Hope this helps and thanks for giving Fusion Drawings a go.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Thanks, this answers my original question.

However, this does not solve my problem. I was looking for "drawing settings", as per something I found somewhere in one of the help or forum pages,  so that I could create a company specific title block. Is this possible?

Also, I have set the drawing to ASME, with sizes in millimetres. Is there a reason why the sheet and text sizes are still in inches? Would it not make sense to have a general setting in preferences for metric or imperial, that then, unless specifically requested, restricts access to things like tools to either metric or imperial tool sizes.

I would also like to be able to put a bottom view into the drawing.

Regards,

Hi,

After some more reading online and as a postscript to my message above. I had not realised that ASME was being used for imperial only. This eliminates the second part of my question as the only reason I was set to ASME was for the third angle projection.

The other parts stand. I would still like to create a company specific title block, and I would like to be able to insert a bottom view into the drawing

Hi Brett,

Glad you found the information you needed. And just to make sure you are heading in the right direction, selecting ASME as your Drawing Format configures the new drawing to use the ASME drafting standard. As a result, you get third angle projection, imperial sheet sizes (A, B, C, D and E) and ASME compliant dimensions and text (e.g. 0.12in text height). Similarly, selecting ISO configures the new drawing to use the ISO drafting standard. As a result, you get first angle projection, metric sheet sizes (A4, A3, A2, A1 and A0) and ISO compliant dimensions and text (e.g. 3.5mm text hieght). Units only control the units used by dimensions. Selecting inches gives you imperial dimension values, and selecting millimeters gives you metric dimension values.

So now to your custom title block question. Unfortunately, Fusion Drawings does not yet support custom titleblocks. Its on our road map but you probably won't see anything until after we've released GD&T symbols and the ability to add multiple sheets to drawings. I do however have a question about your needs. Do you have an existing file that contains your titleblock (maybe an AutoCAD drawing) which you are hoping to reuse, or are you wanting to create a titleblock from stratch in Fusion Drawings?

And now for inserting a bottom view into your drawing. My assumption here is that you have a model and you want to place a view of it (viewed from the bottom) within a drawing. Hope this is correct. So when creating a new drawing, the Base View command is automatically launched. As a result, you should see a preview of your model attached to your cursor and the VIEW PROPERTIES command dialog. By default, the preview is viewed from the front. To change this, click the Orientation property within the VIEW PROPERTIES command dialog and select Bottom from the list. The preview should immediately update to reflect the orientation change. Note: the list of orientations is based on the model's orientation; front, top, right, etc. So if for some reason the bottom view is not what you expect, take a look at what the view cube within the model calls the view you need, and select it from the list.

Hope this helps and looking forward to hearing about your titleblock requirements.

Thanks,

Andrew
