Drawing: Display total assembly weight

As part of our drawings we need to display the weight of the assembly in the title block.

Most of the bodies/components are non-detailed solids representing the external dimensions only, so the calculated weight in Fusion 360 is incorrect. Though it would be really nice to be able to override the weight, I see that we can create a custom material and set that density as needed to get the correct final weight. That's going to be extra work to do for every body that we bring in, but it's doable, assuming that the custom Material info is available across all of the users in our system - I'm not sure how that works yet.

But is there a way then that I can sum up the weight and use it in the title block?

Thanks!

All components, assigned a material, will display a mass property.  An assembly will always display the TOTAL of its components mass property.  This property can be copied to the clipboard and then assigned to an Attribute, in your title block, manually.  The assembly mass property units reflect the units set in the Document Settings.  In my example, my units are in millimeters so the mass is in grams.  Also, this is mass, not weight so altitude will influence the true weight but, in most cases, this is neglectable.

Hi @chris.morrison3C22V ,

We are happy to share that we have started working on a project to provide an ability to add 'Model Mass' in title blocks and parts list. This will display the mass as displayed in model/assembly properties in required units.

This feature should be available soon. Till that time, you can use custom attribute to display mass in title blocks.

Thanks,

That's great news, and will be really helpful for us.

Along with that, the ability to override the calculated mass would save us alot of time and errors too. It's hard to reliably educate all of our staff on the methodology to create custom density for each model imported from outside sources, store them correctly, apply them correctly, etc.

Thanks for your help!
