Drawing dimensions for D-hole

I have a D-hole in a part that is oriented at an angle and would like to add a dimension from the hole center to the flat in the D-hole.  The dimension tools will snap to the hole center but not to the flat midpoint nor can I dimension from the flat to the hole center.  Any suggestions?

Hi MSE_Mech_94,

I took a look at this going by your description, and I see the limitation - what you really want is to acquire the center and then have a Perpendicular snap to the flat to acquire that distance.  We do have plans to enhance our snap settings (allowing overrides) but this is still TBD.  The one workaround I could think of, with the caveat that I agree this step shouldn't be necessary, was to create a Detail view of the hole, then used Rotate on that view so the flat was vertical (or horizontal), now the regular linear dimension tools will work.  Clunky, but I could get the hole dimensioned to get the part made.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

I looked at that as a possible solution method.  I was able to make a section view with the cut perpendicular to the D-hole flat and then put the needed dimension in that view.

Thanks for your input!

Best Regards,

Frederick

I look forward to the enhanced snap settings as I have encountered this same limitation many times and had to use work-arounds. This would save me much headaches.
