Drawing and moving lines?

Once again, I'm simply stuck.

I have drawn a line in sketch. I want to move the line. Please don't ask why, just let me move the line in the Y direction by a fixed value. That's all I'm asking? 15 minutes of attempting to move this line resulted in failure.

For the past 6 months, I have had to draw just about EVERYTHING in other CAD programs and import them to be able to work with Fusion.

HOW DO YOU MOVE A LINE?

I select the move tool. It does not move the line.

I could accomplish more in windows paint!

A screenshot of the problem line would help, but from your description it seems as though you have constraints stopping you from moving the line. If you select the line it should show little icons for all the constraints in the line, If you delete the problem constraints the line will move just by dragging it or dimensioning the line and adding the distance.

What's the color of the line and start/end points? Are there any constraints created upon the line or the start/end points? Any screenshot of you sketch will be very helpful!

How can there be constraints? I did not create any constraints.

Yes, more information would be helpful.  

The Move tool will definitely do exactly what you asked.  While you are editing a sketch, Move will apply to sketch geometry.  Invoke Move, select a line, drag up (for the Y direction).  Enter a value if you want a precise distance.

But, as others say, if the line is constrained from movement in some way, then yes, this will not work.

Constraints are created automatically when sketching. Not sure if there is a way to turn this off or not. Maybe one of the other designers knows and can chime in.

For example, if a line is started from origin point, the line is in fact coincident with the fixed origin point. In this case, the line is not movable in Y direction. However. as you can see, the color of the start point is changed:

Please press and hold CTRL key when drawing lines, that will disable auto inference, no more constraint will be created.

Good point, @jiang_peng.  Ironically, this behavior (any line connected to the sketch center is automatically grounded) was added at users' request.  However, I agree, it can be confusing if you are not aware of this behavior.

If this is the case you are running into, there is a way around it.  You need to break the constraint to the fixed center point.  Right click on the line near the center point, and choose "delete coincident", and the line will be free to move:
