Draw a shape, convert it to a body, pattern it around a point

I'm brand new, as you've heard a million times.

I've gone through about 10 tutorials that all seem to start with an object already created or a premade shape in F360.

The problem is none of those pre-existing shapes work for me.

So, I want to draw a shape with lines, connect them, fill the space in between, pattern this shape around a point then extrude the whole thing as one piece.

The simplest way to describe this would be this:

  • Create a 60,60,60 triangle using 3 lines.
  • Fill the triangle
  • Pattern the triangle 5 more times around one of the points, 60 degrees per, which shoul dleave you with a hexagon of triangles.
  • Merge all the triangles together
  • extrude the hexagon n mm.

I've been fighting with it for more than an hour and no matter what I do, no matter where I go, when I choose pattern and it asks me to select a body, I am unable to select my triangle.

Thanks

That's way to complicated. The polygon tools are your friends:

@chrs.purser

In addition to what @lichtzeichenanlage stated above, realize that there are quite a few tools that will only work with a solid body/ component and a tool with the same name that works with sketching.

The fillet tool is another tool that, like pattern, has one tool for solids and one tool for sketching.

You have to be sure you are selecting the right tool.

Yeah,  I used that as an example. The polygon tool won't work for me here, which is why I described it in the way I did.

Thanks

Thank you for the example. That's exactly what I was looking for.

Where I got stuck was on the selection of the object to pattern.  I assumed I needed to select the triangle as a single entity.  I should have tried grabbing all the lines.

This is exactly the solution to my problem.

Thanks again!

Okay.. it was just an example... New thougts:

It's preferable to use feature based patterns over sketch patterns. Small sketches are more stable and faster in Fusion 360. This is also true for feature based patterns especially if you are using faces.
