I'm a new user for Fusion 3d. I like it very much.

I've tried to import a partnumber and I can select an use the save button but than Fusion reacts with a comment that it is downloading. Without downloading the part, I already tried to install Fusion 360 again but that is not the solution.

Somebody who can help me?

What file type are you trying to download? I recommend downloading as .STP/STEP from the drop down menu when saving from McMaster.

I found that I could use SAT and STEP so I tried them both. Both with the same result. It keeps downloading even for a screw.

I have watched several posts on Youtube and my opinion was that the result should appear within seconds.

Thank you for your responce. I tried STEP and SAT several times. Even for a screw I waited for half an hour before I closed Fusion the hard way. It keeps saying that it's downloading.

Sorry but I have made two questions for one problem. I don't know how to delete one of them

@jannemennekes

The part/assembly should download as a component.  The download speed depends on your internet connection.  Are you saying it is not working at all?  maybe make a screencast highlighting the issue

hi jannemennekes,

welcome to Fusion.  I'm sorry you're having problems with the McMaster-Carr experience.  Can you forward me the part number you are trying to insert in your design?  Also have you tried inserting a simple part, like a washer, to see if it works?  Happy to help you trouble shoot this one.

please let me know.

hope this helps,

Hello Jamie,

I've tied several partnumbers. Just now I tried to download partnumber 90107A005. It is a washer but the problem occurs that Fusion 360 is not staying downloading but another error occurs.

(figure 1) in pdf

Several screenshots in pdf. Tell me if you want more information.

thx

Jan

hmmmm.

I tried both of your parts and they worked, really fast in both cases.

  • Try this, can you go to one of those parts in McMaster in a browser and save the step file?
  • Then try doing a New Design From File under Fusions file menu in the upper right and see if it opens.
  • If that doesn't work, please send me your diagnostic log files, available in the upper right under the Help menu.
  • you can email them to me:  jamie.gilchrist@autodesk.com and I will get them to our qa team to find out what's going on.

thanks for your patience.

hope this helps,

I tried several partnumbers by downloadng from the site and import with new design. That works fine. So I have a workaround for downloading files. Thank for that.

I can sent you the logfile so maybe you can find the problem by downloading the usual method.

Thanks for the solution.

Hello Jan,

you can also upload the parts through the data panel

upload.png

this has a few of benefits:

  • you can upload several parts at once. helpful if you have many fasteners and washers to contend with.
  • the STEP files will be automatically translated to Fusion designs and saved in your project
  • right click the component and "insert" in to any design you're working on.

hope this gets you moving forward again.

hope this helps,

I am new as well. I was able to successfully download a hinge. Where do I find the downloaded item to import into another project? I am unable to re-download from McMaster without deleting it. I can not find where the file exists to do anything further with it. TYI

This is an awesome video.  Thank you!. However, I deleted the hinge from my project, and am unable to redownload because the hinge still seems to exist in my history somewhere, and I can find that location to re-import.  I am unable to re-download from McMaster unless I delete the file from that particular "hidden" location I assume.  Where are these files saved when downloaded so they can be used in future projects?

As you can see in the video, they are saved in the assembly file where they are placed.  You can right click on the component, in the Browser, and Save Copy As to create an external component but that does not sound like what you have.  Open the file you first inserted the McMaster-Carr hinge into and then choose File, then Export and save to your hard drive.  Then in a reply post, attach the file using the Attachment section.  I will take a look.
