A downdate has stuffed up my default material and i can't fix it.  I needed help to set it up in the first place, it is an obscure process.  This is costing me a heap of productivity.

If i select 'Physical Material Category' - 'default', the material i had and want as my default is not on the list and i don't know how to get it on the list.

What is a downdate?

Generally speaking in the past when a software change was made to a program the term ascribed was "update" and it would typically improve the program.  The term 'update' may well have humble origins in reference to bringing a version of the software 'up-to-date' with the most recent coding, but since historically software changes improved a program the term also carries the implication that the program has been improved.  There are also other factors such as that 'up' is generally considered preferential and superior to 'down', such as 'feeling up' versus 'feeling down', or heaven being described as up and hell being down, being 'on top of things' rather than being 'under the weather', a graph going up is normally considered better, etc.  Since most programs around these days have been degraded over the last ten plus years, and since Fusion has been heavily degraded over the last four years, the term 'update' carries an inappropriate connotation.  Hence the need for the term 'downdate'.

In relation to this thread, i just checked and when i create a solid my default is now as it was and should be.  So it seems the software change continued rolling in and rectified the issue or someone read my post and fixed the issue.  I do not know for sure.  Either way the program was unreliable, cost me focus and productivity, and some files may be corrupted, which are bad things.

Another problem with regular downdates is that i normally use my desktop but occasionally wish to use my laptop, but when i go to use my laptop i cannot open files because the version of the software has become out of date.  This has caused me embarrassment with customers and possibly a massive contract.  The need for the laptop tends to be spur of the moment and there is insufficient time to update the software in front of the customer.  I paid for a second licence for the laptop but it is almost worthless to me.

It is like the frog that doesn't jump out of the saucepan because the water temperature is raised slowly.  For some weird reason many people don't even realise that so much software is being turned into junk.

[Right on cue i just clicked 'reply' to upload this response and nothing happened.  I sat there for a while, then scrolled the screen and it said something along the lines of 'unexpected error has occurred'.  After another five to ten minutes i finally got it to work.  More focus and time lost.]
