Disappearing Sketch after click and choose 'editing sketch'

Hello

After making several inlay's for some of my tools to have them fit in a case, I did change my workflow. Now I want to create a base component, and under that base component several other component to cut the individual inlay's; not even knowing of this wil work, I walk trough an issue.

If I want to edit my "Basis-OutlineBase', by clicking in the tree or at the sketch itself ( Right Click and choose 'edit sketch') the plane rotates to the top view, a grid is showing up but no sketch. BTW, this is also for the other Sketches; they disappear .

How can I solve this?

I can't remember that I have ever see this before. I notice also that my sketch history icon is getting yellow.

Is there a problem?

I did upload my file; if it is v8, please choose v7. In eight something went even more wrong I guess.

Thanks in advance

René

Ctrl b (CMD b on Mac)

It doesn't appear that you are using robust sketching techniques.

I recommend that you start over from scratch and Attach your new file here after each and EVERY step for analysis by the experts here.

You should never have blue lines and white dots (after defining your sketch).

You should pattern Features rather than sketch elements (in most cases - if possible and practical).

Use the BORN Technique as much as possible and practical (sketch ONLY on the Origin planes).

If at ANY time you see an issue highlighted in yellow or red - STOP - undo whatever you just did and ask questions here.

I don't know why, but I am certain that the Basis- OutlineBase sketch seems to be broken.

I am very interested to know what kind of manipulation would cause this and whether it is reproducible.

That said, it would be a shame to lose the sketch I had written, so I copied it and resurrected it.

I responded by creating a new sketch in front of Extrude and making a copy there.

I also took a video.

Thanks for showing a way to fix this; however I couldn't address how it did gets wrong. I thnk I miss something obvious.

At first I did remake a Sketch and copy the base layout like you did in the video, but ulimatly I go the same disapearing sketch, however now with no yellow colored icon.

I did start from scratch. No problem any more.

Just thinking to find a good workflow. I guess, that during drawing, it did make a mess in the first places, do something going back, sometimes using Undo, Delete, Time line back and forward. I do change something has to Undo twice to get it undone.

Any way

This is the work flow that I like to follow.

Make a component ( 'Basis BaseBody' )

Sketch a base plate

extrude a Base Body with a symmetric total height; 1.6mm down and 21mm - 1.6mm up; this to get a body of 21mm thick

Loop:

For each type of inlay body:

     Make a component

     Sketch the Inlay Shape and or Slots

     Sketch the Finger Slot to can get lift it up.

     Create a Body of both

     Combine those two bodies.

          ( I notice that I can't always create a Combined body of those; this because of they are separated bodies and therefor not connected. )

     Select the  'Basis BaseBody' body-

          Choose Combine;

          Select the 'CUT' Bodies;

          Select 'cut' action and 'keep tools';

          Select create component ( Pity that we cant name the component there!).

          OK

     Do some Text ( using new sketch planes to draw on), Fillet and other actions.

Next Inlay

Any flaws in this workflow? Yes I have to learn a lot, but a good workflow is Rule #3, right?! 😉

About BORN ( https://blogs.rand.com/files/the-born-technique.pdf ), I think that a good thing when you have no base dependencies, otherwise it would create a welt of lines on one plane, if I understand BORN right.

You wrote a lot of words, but didn’t Attach a file with intact Timeline History?

Attach a file here that illustrates your technique.

As @TheCADWhisperer says, please attach a file that reproduces the procedure verbatim from the beginning.
I can't reproduce the procedure as @rvamerongen says here.

Thank you in advance.

@rvamerongen

Where did you go?

I thought we were discussing a robust workflow.

Don't understand your request about "showing a timeline" and discussing a workflow proposal.

I did show a step for step plan that I got in my mind and ask for an opinion; but no reaction about that yet. Thought, I wil give people some time to find my post, while I'am away.

And yes; I did go away. I guess it was 240-250 km's from home. 😉
