Dimension text not showing with macOS Catalina 10.15.3

By Apple default, Ariel fonts are located in the Fonts/Supplemental folder and cannot be moved to the Fonts parent folder as other posts have indicated would fix the problem.  I am new to Fusion 360 and am very frustrated with trying to fix this.  Are there any other solutions or will Autodesk address this ?

@free2fly1, I need a little more context to understand the problem. If dimensions are missing entirely, this suggests an issue with that Dimension command more than the font it would use.

Would you please provide a screenshot or recording of the behavior? Or, a GIF/MP4 from your favorite screen recorder will also work.

  • Fusion 360 integrates with Autodesk Screencast (free), which you can access from File (next to the Data Panel/above the Workspace Switcher, not the macOS top menu) > Share > Launch Screencast Recorder. You will likely need to grant the application several Privacy permissions in order to capture your screen, commands and keystrokes, and your commentary (optional). At the end, you will get an Autodesk-hosted link to the video (you can change it to Unlisted), and we will be able to see the exact order and timing of command activation.
  • You can also use Apple's Quicktime Player, included with macOS, to record all or a portion of your screen.

You might also try resetting your preferences by clicking your account name in the top right > Preferences > Restore Defaults in the lower right. If you have installed any extra addins beyond those that come with Fusion, try turning those off.

Finally, if you would kindly provide some system specifications, that may help narrow down the issue; a screenshot of About This Mac would suffice.

Thanks for the suggestions.  When using sketch commands ... ie: Circle, the dimension line and leaders show, but there is no text on the dimension line after setting the dim value desired.  I can set the text initially and later select the dimension and the dim will highlight and show the value in a black box but not on the dimension line.

I have reset my Defaults per your suggestion, but there was no difference.  I have not added any add-ins.  Attached are screenshots of my About page and of the sketch showing the dimensions without text.

Thanks for your help !

Regards,

Bruce

Ah I see the issue. Based on the appearance of your toolbars, it appears you have an older version of Fusion 360 installed. The draggable toolbar in your screenshot was retired in September, 2019 in favor of the newer Tabbed Toolbar UI, around the time macOS 10.15 Catalina was just rolling out and many of the bugs hadn't been discovered yet. This is one such bug we have since fixed in later releases of Fusion 360.

Could you please confirm the version of Fusion 360 installed? If it's not able to update on macOS, there are a few possibilities:

  • The copy installed is an Administrator install designed for mass deployments - updates are instead distributed at the whim of your local IT administrator
  • The copy installed came from the Mac App Store - Fusion 360 departed the MAS in April 2019, and is now only offered as a traditional, downloadable streaming installer from Autodesk's website
  • The copy installed has failed to update for some other reason, and needs to be uninstalled before a newer copy can be installed

Lance,

Thanks for the feedback.  I honestly don't remember whether I got it from the Mac App Store or the Autodesk site.  I suspect the Autodesk site because it does not show up under Apps/Updates.  I seem to recall I need support's assistance to get my "hobby/startup" license to properly work and startup.

I have included a screen shot from the Fusion 360 About page as well as a .zip diagnostic log file I generated from "?" (upper right corner of screen)/Support and Diagnostics/Diagnostic Log Files.  I hope this gives you additional information.  I suspect I just need to uninstall and re-install as per you third suggest in your last reply.

Before I do that, please have look and see if that is the correct path.  I just want to confirm before I do since I had issues previously getting the licenses to work.

Thanks for all of your help.  I really appreciate it.

Regards,

Bruce

@free2fly1 to be honest, licensing is entirely cloud-based, and independent of your local installation. Licensing is only determined at the time of login, and the client is otherwise the same for users of all license types.

That said, we have also made some changes to our license servers and APIs since that release, so part of the issues you're facing could very well also be due to being on a legacy version.

The only thing to check before uninstalling, is that any pending uploads/saves have completed, as these don't yet exist in your cloud. If everything is showing correctly in the Data Panel, then you can safely uninstall.
