Dimension Arrows.

Hi all,

How do you edit the dimension arrows in a drawing. I have a full design that needs dimensions and in one area all the arrows overlap each of the dimensions.

Thanks.

Hi Michael,

We currently don't have the ability to override the default arrow locations (say flip the arrows inside the extension lines instead of out).  If you select the dimension you can select the text grip and move it, you can also re-space the dims this way.  We are working on dimension break so the extension lines of dimensions can show a break where they overlap other dimensions or text.

Depending on your design, and how you want to dimension it, Ordinate dimensions may be an option, or creating a detail view of the area at a larger scale where dimension can be better spaced. Would either of these work for you?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Any news on this front?

Thanks.

Hi Volkan,

Unfortunately, no.  Can I get some more information on exactly what type of edits/customizations you'd like?  Suppress arrows, flip arrows, re-size arrows, customize (different arrow head types), or all of the above?

Thanks,
Chris

Hey Chris,

All of your suggested controls would be great. Flipping arrows would probably be the most significant, this can help avoid the crossing of dimension lines immensely. Arrow suppression would be my next vote, this would help with clutter on intricate parts. A detail view normally solves this though..

Suggestions most likely for other forums strains: the ability to sketch construction lines and other geometry in 2D drawings, the option to change color of dimensions and centerlines/centermarks from black, the ability to place Datum and Feature Control Frames without a connecting line (freestanding, to place under dimension callouts), control of the lineweight that prints to PDF

Thanks,

Brandon

It's really disappointing not to be able to create your own dimension style. But the worst is working with the same arrowhead size... Your drawings get a non-professional looking and arrows crossing or overlapping what a mess!!!

Is there an update on this request?  I really need the ability to flip arrows from inside the extension lines to outside of them.  Is there a place to formally request improvements to Fusion 360?

I just want to add my support to these requests. I have been really impressed with most of what Fusion has to offer, but I find I really get bogged down in the final step of generating the prints to send to the shop. Having the best model in the world doesn't do much good if it can't be clearly communicated to the machinist. The drawing environment seems like it could really use some TLC to make it more efficient to produce clear prints. Besides just formatting arrows, I also would suggest easing the ability to make detail and section views on separate pages, switch between portrait and landscape page formats, etc.

Thanks for all the hard work you continue to put into this software.

Chris,

Is there any plan for Autodesk to Fix this?

Half of my parts are long shafts 50-60" long with 10-15 different diameters.

I am really struggling with dimensioning this part in a professional way. forget all the details, just listing all the diameters with their tolerances hurts my eyes. I can't think of a work around.

Is there something that I am missing? Any help would be very apricated, thank you

Hi pwayne7411, kevin399MLwellisonS6RTG, and everyone else who has responded to this thread over the years.

In the past month and a half, we have released a few of the features mentioned in this thread: sketch geometry in drawings, and lineweight display and control, as well as other new features. However as you know, we did not yet provide the ability to flip or hide arrrowheads -- it is most certainly on our roadmap!

With regards to arrowhead style and size, these are designed to conform to the ME drafting standard you have chosen, whether ISO or ASME. And we do support portrait sheet orientation for the smallest sheet size (A and A4).

I can't promise when this ability will come, but it is pretty high on the list. I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but I did want to respond to your comments. I do think you will start to see more releases like the May and June release, with a number of Drawings improvements in (we're trying) every major release. Stay tuned!

I would like to add to this, that not only arrow suppression, but also being able to use slashes instead of arrows would greatly help in being able to show spans of stacked dimensions in an organized manner.  Additionally, having the ability to curve a dimension leader line would help to be able to place dimensions out of the way in particularly busy parts of the drawing.

@sabadell ,

I would appreciate this as well. Here is an example of where I would use it.

Notice the dimensions on the bottom. I want to separate these from the R2.00 for clarity. The arrows, however, make the 8.00 and 2.50 dimensions confusing. I would like to suppress on arrow on each.

Honestly, I would be happy with an option to suppress arrows in the edit dimension dialogue or some kind of automatic arrow suppression (that figures this out when dimensions share an extension line).

Hello. With the recent updates, is there a way to change the arrowhead size now? I would like to reduce mine a bit. Thanks!

Almost 4 years, and this basic request for the arrows is still not set...

I like designing with Fusion 360, but doing 2D drawings is a nightmare.

The arrows are not flippable and most of the time on the wrong side, you have to zoom like hell to place the dimensions in a proper position, and when the text can't be place freely according to it.

Why so many constraints, why so much time to react on such a basic but important option?

Please, react!

Thanks

Hello,

I'm also finding that the arrow heads are causing a chaotic nightmare to my drawings to send to shop. Please create an option that allows for dashes instead of arrows so drawings can look more professional and less messy. Why has this not been fixed yet? Even after the fact Fusion 360 became something we had to start paying for this should be high on the priority list considering we are paying for professional accounts now.

This was posted 4 years ago and we still do not have such basic functionality. Overall F360 is an adequate product that could easily replace some of the more "professional" cad systems I use if they were to add basic things like this. When I have to design a part professionally I know I cannot use F360 because the drawings are terrible. F360 has been relegated to quick prototyping and experimentation. Its too bad since F360 is so easy to get started with and easy to use.

So these issues are On Deck or Backlog.

Here's to hoping they get done soon : )

Hi @Anonymous & @michaelpaiva

We are listening, and we take all of your feedback very seriously.

Hopefully I can help by sharing some of the projects we are working on. The ones that affect this thread, can be broken down into short, medium and longer term projects.

Short term - Text Height Groups
This feature will allow for the size of the text objects on a drawing to be re-sized, giving you more control over the size of objects, like dimensions, Balloons, tables etc. Reducing the size of the dimension text will reduce/scale down the size of dimension arrows.

Text Height.gif

Medium Term - Dimension Text Control (Leader Flip)
This feature will give you the ability to flip an arrow’s position, it will affect either a single side or both sides of a dimension. Bear with us, it will be a few months before you see this in the product, but it is coming.

Longer Term
Fusion drawings are created using ASME and ISO standards, the dimension styles in our drawings are set to comply with these standards. We want to add more flexibility in this area.

If you’d like to help shape this, I’d love to talk to you, here is a link to my calendar, please book a Zoom session with me, we can discuss your drawings (and challenges), and I can share our ideas, as well as more of the roadmap with you.

If you’re not up for a chat, but still want to be involved, please share examples of your drawings with me, I want to understand where you have issues, or where you have used workarounds to get the results you desire. The best way to do this, is to email me Clint. Brown {a} Autodesk.com.

I would like to add to the chorus of people requesting this feature.

Not being able to flip arrows pretty much kills you when dimensioning section views. For example, we have these holes in this part that have several dimensions, and dimensioning them gets extremely  messy because we cannot move the arrows to the inside.
