Desktop Connector : Fusion <> Inventor sync

We're currently excited to see progress on the Desktop Connector front - current workflow is to design most things in Fusion, export out to Inventor for drawing creation. Desktop Connector is promising - the idea of having Inventor drawings linked to Fusion models is SUPER helpful.

There's currently no way to make an Inventor drawing from a Fusion model, but we can create a container Inventor assembly, insert a Fusion model into that using Desktop Connector, then create a drawing.

We're currently running into a showstopper issue where ONE component refuses to update through the DC.

Pull the component into Inventor as a standalone, no issue.

Update the Fusion assembly through DC, it updates, but shows an old version of the component.

Any thoughts/experience appreciated.

Hi Todd,

You mentioned "Update the Fusion assembly through DC, it updates", I didn't see any update workflow in you video, and you Fusion assembly is always V1. Could you give more details about the Update workflow? I suppose the first time you imported "0781 NESM Master V1", the "8' lighterbar" component is already not correct.

To solve the problem, you could try saving "0781 NESM Master" to V2 in Fusion, after saving complete, go back to Inventor, reopen that Inventor assembly, update the Fusion reference.

If it doesn't work for you, do you mind sharing your Fusion project to me to take further investigation? My Autodesk account is "Xianhua.chen@autodesk.com"

Thanks,

Xianhua

Thanks for the response, Xianhua.

I edited the update out of the screencast because it takes several minutes.

When I update the Master in Fusion, the rev updates, but it doesn't actually reflect in the Inventor browser. The components themselves do update, but not the name of the inserted Fusion Model.

I solved the problem enough to get by, but I'll be happy to share the model with you to confirm what I found.

I *believe* that it had to do with components somehow being linked in Fusion : I created a 4' lightbar, then Saved As and changed the length to 8'. Somehow, these two components stayed linked. They both showed as 4' lightbars in Inventor. When I'd go back to Fusion and change a length, they would both change. I will attempt to recreate the issue later tonight and share a more detailed screencast.

Thank you Todd,  these information is helpful, but that's no enough for me to reproduce this issue. It would be really appreciated if you could provide the video and the data, we will investigate it and try to avoid the same problem in the future. Thanks again.

Apologies for the delay. I finally got time to do some testing and upload another screencast showing the issue.

Hopefully this is helpful.

Hi Todd,

Thank you for your video, following your steps, I recorded the workflow in my side, please take a look whether there is big difference between your operation and mine.

From my testing, if the Fusion file is fully saved before importing into Inventor, the Check for Updates function should work good, but if the Fusion file is saved to a new version during Inventor importing, then Check for Updates function won't work for this new version, you could save that Fusion file again, then try Check for Updates again to make it work.

I recorded the whole workflow in my video, it is quite long. The fist part of the video shows the good workflow, and the latter part shows the workflow that has the problem. If the issue shows in the video is not what you met, and if you see other issues, feel free to contact us. Thank you for your great support.

Thanks for looking into this, Xianhua!

I'll give it proper attention later tonight and test it on my system.
