Designing a robot

Hello, I'm a student and I'm going to design my new prototype of my 3D printed robot in Fusion360. Since I was using Tinkercad and 123D sketch previously, I don't have any experience in complicated CAD programmes.

When designing, should I create each robotics component in different files or create the whole design in one file and set them as joints?

Also, if you have any other advice when building a humanoid robot without legs, please tell me.

For this project create all discrete parts in one file as components. When importing purchased parts such as stews etc. say from McMaster Carr, break the link right after inserting them.

You can use linked (external) files, but the need for these is relatively rare.

Adhere to Fusion 360 R.U.L.E #1: Before doing anything, create a component and make sure it's activated. That will ensure that all objets created after activation are created in that compnent. thsi will greatly help organizing your work.

This article explains the difference between bodies and components and @scottmoyse wrote this nice article about the same subject.

With that in mind, go watch the 60 minutes of introductory videos in the "Learn" section. The Autodesk Fusion 360 Youtube channel also has a number of nice tutorials. All that should get you started pretty quickly.

Although this topic is finished. I would like to tell why using one file with many components give advantage is when using  user defined parameters(dimensions), as all components can use the parameters if they are in a single file, giving an edge when updating a dimension. If you create different files for different components, u can't refer one file's defined parameters to use in the other file. Although there is an addon in the store to work around for this problem. This is just from experience, you can  tell me if I am wrong

Yes. So far, using components in one file has helped me. Thanks
