Design Marked as "Read Only"

Over the past few days I have noticed the following.  I have a design that I created last year and have been updating.  It seems that about half the time when I open the design Fusion marks it as "Read Only".  Closing and re-opening the file fixes the problem.

No one else has the design open.  Does anyone know what is going on?

Hi @neljoshua,

Off of the top of my head, I personally haven't seen this. Can you share the model with me at james.youmatz@autodesk.com? I am curious to see if this issue occurs on my computer as well or if it is tied to your account/computer specifically. Also, can you post a screenshot when it pops up and says "Read-Only"? I am curious to see what that looks like in case I cannot generate that error myself. Thanks!

@James.Youmatz

I too have seen this over the last few days, it did it on my skeleton model and a few others. If I logged out and back in it cleared it up but it happened more then once so it's not his computer causing it. I also saw this at work....

Hi @PhilProcarioJr,

Thanks for the update. That's really strange. Let me play around with some of my older designs and see if I can generate the error message. If you guys think of any new information or updates that could help me along, please let me know.

Thanks,

Not sure if this info will be of any help but if I saved the designs as new the problems with them stopped. I realize this is not a good solution for anyone wanting to keep their revision history as it is lost when you save the file as new. I didn't care about revision history so it worked for me. Just a FYI.

James, et. al,

I shared the design with you (James).  I will try to get a screen shot, but as I said, the only notice that I get is in the upper left corner saying the file is read-only.  It happened again this morning, but that was before I read this post.

I am also having a number of issues with this design.  There have been errors in the timeline after a "Compute All" (which seem to resolve by closing without saving, reopening, and performing the same operation) and a component I cannot get to join to others (Thomas_1610 will only allow me to place one planar joint on it--any more state that there is a joint conflict--which is weird because there should not be).

I created another post regarding the joint issue.  I just thought I would mention it here.

Thanks for the idea, Phil.  In this case, however, I really want to keep the version history.  I use it quite a bit.

It happened again this morning.  This time, however, I was not paying attention and I lost some work (as I cannot save it).  Man Mad

@neljoshua If you don't mind, could you post the diagnostic files?

Looking through the log file there is a suspicious entry on 10am on the Tuesday, May 17th. Do you happen to recall if the 'Read Only' issue happened around that time?

Thanks,

Maybe...I started seeing the issue around the beginning of the week.  It has, however, happened a few times since then.

Hi @neljoshua,

Also, one thing to add to @innovatenate post, is there a specific workflow that you notice that generates this error. Such as quickly saving/closing/re-opening the model? Also, are there multiple people or machines collaborating on this model? I'm just trying to get as many clues as possible. Thank you for patience and help!

I am typically the only one working on these models.  That idea occurred to me, as well, but it is not the case.

Read Only status occurs most frequently when I first open things in the morning.

I am happy to help the Fusion team, especially as they are so helpful.

Are you still bumping into this Read-Only issue regularly? I'm wondering if any of the recent updates may have helped...

Thanks,

Nate,

I have been out of the office (on vacation) last week, so I have not seen it since the latest update.  I did see it before (during the week of 23 May).

I have had a couple in incidents of "read only" files.  I can confirm closing the file & the re-opening will fix the issue (although by the time I notice this, some amount of work needed to be re-done!)

From memory it occurred after starting Fusion360 fresh from computer wake up, and loading up a file.

If I see it again ill capture the log files and send them in.

cheers

Mike
