Derived parameters don't update anymore- Bug?

In most of my projects I'm using some user parameters like NozzleDiameter, WallThickness, etc. more ore less all the time. I wanted to adjust my workflow and I've created a design with some "global parameters". Because it was just a starting point I've updated this list from time to time. And of cause I've updated the destination project, too. And suddenly the destination were not updated anymore. Even worse, it only shows the first derived parameter. 

Any suggestions?

Hi,

I want to make sure I understand the details.  You derived some parameters from PrinterDefaults to Draft2.  Then later you added more User Parameters in PrinterDefaults and made them Favorites.  Then you went to Default2 and updated it, but the new Parameters from PrinterDefaults do not appear in the Derived Parameters list?  Is this correct?

Also, have you moved either of the designs to a different Project or do they remain in the same Project location?

Hi,

that's what I did. The only difference is, that I've edited several times and only the last one failed. After I discovered that, I tried to force population of the PrinterDefaults by uncheck the favorite marker from one parameter, saving Printer defaults, going to draft (no out of sync warning) and finally check the favorite marker in the PrinterDefaults again. 

Last try before posting this thread was to recover from an older version. But that didn't worked, too. 

I haven't moved the files.

Ok, this certainly does seem like a bug.  I will create a defect and see if QA can reproduce this.  In the mean time, you might just try another Derive from PrinterDefaults to Draft.  You can Derive multiple times into the same target design.  See if that will bring in all of your Favorite parameters.

Okay. I'll try this. Otherwise I just start from scratch. Unless this is just a hobby it's kind of okay. Just wanted to make aware of this. Do you need log files or anything else?

Yes, actually.  If you open Draft2 in A360/Fusion Team, then download it from there as a Fusion 360 Archive, this will automatically bundle the source design (DefaultPrinter) with it, and it will keep the reference between them.  Then post the .F3Z here.  That will help us diagnose the problem.

The draft.zip contains the f3z file. For whatever reason the forum rejected it to append so I wrapped it in a zip. Perhaps this was because of a bad internet connection. Don't know.

Yes, but that .F3Z does not contain the DefaultPrinter.f3d.  That may explain the issue.  If you did the download from Fusion Team, then the .F3Z should also contain the DefaultPrinter because we always include referenced designs (source designs) along with the target design.  Since your .F3Z did not include the source design, it might mean the reference is not recognized.  If you go to the Data Panel item for Draft2, and click on the "Uses" tab, does it show that it uses "DefaultPrinter"?

I'm not an Fusion Team user. I've used A360 by clicking the project name at the top of the data panel and than started the Fusion 360 Archive download (via email).  Just in case you want to do it on your own, here is the public link: https://a360.co/2Ee6BBf

That Fusion 360 has completely lost the link to PrinterDefaults is hard to believe, because if I check the parameters windows, it still shows the link with one parameter (right):

So I guess the Draft file is somehow broken. 

The uses tab from  is empty. The used in tab from PrinterDefaults is empty, too.

Yeah, the public link won't do the trick because when you share a design it does not automatically share the referenced design(s).  You can do the download from A360, it does not have to be Fusion team.

But the fact that the Uses and Used In tabs are blank means the reference is lost.  In the Draft2 timeline, if you right-click on the Derive feature (looks like it's at the beginning of the timeline) and choose "Edit Derive Feature", what happens?  Does it open PrinterDefault or does it say "Failed to get link to source document."?

Okay. It happend again. That what I did:

• I've copied the PrinterDefaults from my previous project to a new project. Resulting in a V1.
• I've created a new Design (SimpleCase), saved it and Insert Derive PrinterDefaults V1 into it.
• I've created a sketch, used some of the derived parameters. No save done yet.
• I've renamed some parameters in the PrinterDefaults. Saved it. New version is V2.
• Link was gone in SimpleCase. This time there is no hint of any derived parameters in Simple Case. 

I hope I haven't missed a step. It's just what I've remembered.

I feel like there are missing steps.  I tried this exact workflow and could not reproduce the issue.

After you changed the Parameter names in step 4, then saved PrinterDefaults and returned to SimpleCase, was SimpleCase out of date?  If it was not out of date then there was no reference to PrinterDefaults.  If it was out of date, then did you update it?  And did the Derive link disappear after updating?

Since you copied PrinterDefaults to a new project, are you sure SimpleCase is in the same project?  We currently don't allow derive links across projects.  So if the source or target are moved to a different project then the derive link could be lost.

I did uncover another defect while testing this.  It appears that if you use a Derived parameter in a sketch or feature in the target design, then go to the source design and change the parameter name, then save, then go back to the target and update, the sketch or feature still uses the old parameter name and it will no longer update associatively.  I'll get that logged.

Simple case wasn't out of date. That's why I checked the "uses tab" and it was empty. I'm pretty sure that my description matches what I did and that I've used the PrinterDefaults from the same directory. But unless it's just what I've remembered and I wasn't paying attention to the steps I'm doing (not like a tester) I might missing something. So if you can't reproduce this error, just ignore this post.

I think I just experienced a similar issue.

My steps to reproduce are the following:

1. Create a fusion design that will be inserted into another design later
   1. Create 2 components
   2. Create a body within each component
   3. Create user defined params in the design
   4. Favorite those params, for import later
2. Create a second design
   1. Create a new component
   2. With the new component active, use "insert derive"
      1. within insert derive, select a component from the first design
      2. select favorite parameters
      3. click okay

Result: no imported parameters

I found that if I do the insert derive with the whole design active, and insert derive the top level of the design with the parameters I want, only then will I get the favorite parameters inserted. I found this a bit confusing. I wish I could just insert-derive the parameters as a first-class entity, and have fusion put the inserted parameters at the top level of my current drawing.

Ok, I am able to reproduce this issue now.  It appears that deriving favorite parameters doesn't work at all when deriving into an active child component in the destination design.  I'll see if we have this logged yet.

I've logged a defect for this.  FUS-157147 for reference.

In the meantime, you should be able to derive parameters if you activate the root design.  If you want to derive geometry into an active component, you can do that as another derive feature without the parameters.  Hopefully we can fix this issue soon.
