Deleting designs

I am trying to tidy my files by deleting obsolete designs. I have deleted sub-assemblies from a main assembly., on attempting to delete the sub-assy. a pop up window tells me "A version of this design has been referenced by drawings or other designs and cannot be deleted" I have checked the where used and it is the same assembly I have deleted the sub-assy from, it is not used elswhere. Surely if I am not sharing the drawings then I should be allowed to delete what I want regardless of the consequencies. I am a lone designer so am aware exactly where these designs are used.

Although you've deleted the subassembly from the current version the old versions still reference it, you might want to roll back so you're stopped from making the deletion. The only way you might get around this is to do a Save Copy As to clear out all the old versions then delete the design with the versions and then delete the subassembly.

Hi Mark

Thanks for that.
Does this mean that Autodesk's server is gradually filling up with obsolete work. Would a top level clear out button help. The deleted files could be held for say, two weeks, before they are discarded completely.
Just a thought, I hate clutter.

There's a similar thread here and it seems like AutoDesk aren't too worried about it. I would like to be able to remove some of the version that get created during a designing or have the option to just save without creating a new version, at the moment there are so many versions you would struggle to search through for one you might want!

Hi @HughesTooling ,

I've the same problems of @gordonclamp . I'm pretty sure my drawings are not referred to nothing, but I can't delete it.

Can you clarify what cold be a solution for this problem?

tnx so much

@Anonymous Going to need more info. Does the design contain linked components or has it had linked components at any point where you've saved a version? What version is the design at, if you saved any version with a linked design then you still have links.
