Hi, I'm trying to calculate the deformation to a steel door frame due to gravity and glass. I did the simulation and it shows deformation in the Z axis of 0.3026" due to gravity alone if one edge of door is fixed (hinges). this seems extreme and when I set grid scale to 1/16" per minor division, its looks a lot more like 0.006". The visual Deformation Scale is set to 'Actual'.

 

Am I misinterpreting the results?

Right off the top I would suggest that you actually mode in the glass etc. as it looks now you are just applying a static load in the middle of the frame. As built I suspect your deflection is about right. Once the glass is installed in the model you will find it to be much stiffer.

If you can post your model and a description of the finished product I can show you the difference.

Thanks for the reply. I will do that soon but Ut I've been busy with fabrication. I don't see how modeling in the glass will be helpful for adding stiffness, as it will add weight and cause more sag in the frame. But to back up, the drawn frame is just one side of the door system, there is core layer separating the another frames and the glass will be sandwiched between the two frames. 

 

What I mostly don't understand is why the simulation predicts that I will get so much sag as we went ahead and fabricated a frame , set it up vertically, fixed one vertical edge and got virtually no sag. At the most 0.010".   After watching some tutorials, I think I set up the simulation incorrectly, in particular, the mesh and the point of load as you pointed out.
