Decals and reverse Fillets

Hi All,

I am modelling an F1 Racing Tyre - not as simple as it sounds.

I am trying to get the Branding in the right place but I am running into issues with Decals.

Because there is a big hole in the middle of the tyre, Fusion wants to put the actual Decal on a surface. This is

fine as my Decal has a transparent background and the only parts are actually ON the Model. Fusion however

tries to wrap all of the Decal around the sidewall of the Model.

Is there a way to drape the Decal over the Model like a sheet? This would put the Decal in exactly the right

place as the centre of the Decal on the Origin would be the origin of the Model. I tried creating an Offset Plane

but Fusion wants an actual Surface. The only Surface available is the rubber tyre.

Second question.

Can you easily do a Reverse Fillet without actually modelling it in the Sketch? I tried to use the Fillet command with

minus values but it goes red and will not work. What I want is a concave fillet instead of a convex fillet on an edge

like this:

As soon as I try to put it in the Sketch my Constraints go its up.

For those of you wondering what is so "hard" about this model - it isn't that it is hard, just quite fiddly because

all of those lines and dots have to be created before being turned into circular patterns and there are LOTS of them.

Cheers

No *.f3d file Attached?

Q.Why are we using CAD?

A. Because mere words are not enough or inefficient to describe our Design Intent.

My Bad,

File attached now.

I currently have "something" that sort of works. I tried cutting up the Decal and applying it. It looks terrible which is

why I really wanted the single Decal.

Also, to position the Decals I made the Tyre transparent Glass material because I could then line it up with the

Canvas underneath, I have changed it back to Rubber but it is still transparent. This happens when the Rear Tyre

or Top level is Activated, not sure why this is happening. It shows black when I set the material then changes to

transparent.

I know I can edit the Sketch to get the reverse Fillet but in my first attempt it trashed my Constraints so I changed

it back.

Where do you want the reveres fillet? You can create a reverse fillet using the pipe command but I can't figure out where you want it.

You could add a circle to the sketch and not trim anything so you don't break any constraints. Then just edit the revolve and unselect areas of the profile you don't want included.

I would simplify this sketch - Pattern Features rather than sketch elements.

And line up the spokes and lug holes for aesthetics.

I would simplify this sketch and use Shell after Revolve...

@Drewpan

I don't see these in your file?

Sounds like another case of create one simple sketch and then Pattern Feature, not sketch elements.

Just above the Pirelli there is a reverse fillet around the tyre. It is a bit hard to see but it is there.

Pipe will give a reverse fillet but don't think it quite right in this case if you select the edge?

Thanks guys,

Both solutions work for the Reverse Fillet. I suppose I expected too much to think there was a specific command.

It made sense to me to use Fillet with negative values but obviously it didn't work. I must have been brain dead because I probably would have worked it out eventually.

Hi,

The Rim is unusual in that it has 10 bolt holes and spokes so it looks a little strange in the Sketch. My plan was to model it simply then shape it with various Fillets and extrusions. It is also asymetric with a deep hub. I have very

few actual dimensions - I am drawing it mainly from photos.

f1-pirelli-pneus-18pol-730.jpg

Some of the lines in the Sketch are directly from the Canvas. I drew them but hadn't done a lot with them.

I started on the Rim then changed my mind to concentrate on the Tyre.

I haven't finished creating all of the features yet so there is a lot of surface details not there yet (but will be) the

comment was more about why it was tricky to model, not that I had done it yet.

I did think of Shell and Revolve but I have been trying several different techniques to learn more about how

some of the Commands work. I have been watching many of your videos. I am nowhere near good but I am not

as bad as I was. 😎

Thanks again for your patience.

Good luck.

I modeled this 16 years ago from photos making up my own logical dimensions and a bit of artistic license.
