Decal placement problem

How do I keep the logo on the surface? Both surfaces were selected, and a .png was selected as a decal. It seems to submerge as I move it around. I made a test png and it doesn't have this issue. Is there some attibute of the png causing this? Thanks!

Could you share the model with me so that I can take a look?

Our decal tool is different than the typical decal/label implementation in that it creates a mesh of the image file - it doesn't just project the image down on the surface like a projection map.

The good part of that is that you can slide the mesh around on a surface and it doesn't warp like a projection might (like in the video below), but sometimes you get in to a situation where the mesh might fold in on itself.

I suspect what you have there is a bug but I would need to take a look.

This is a bug, I was able to reproduce but I was also able to sort of work around it.

Colin,

In your Screencast video, as you moved the decal over the sharp edge the decal became distorted.

Would it be helpful if there was a small fillet on that edge?

Hi @JBerns,

Yes, the mesh gets distorted as is tries to turn the corner (but does a decent job IMHO).  A fillet would help that transition. 

The smoother the better.

In Decal dialog window there is an option Chain Faces, uncheck this option, and pick only those faces where decal should appear. Try it, it should help.
