Cxan't rotate body/component

I have a part that I can't use the rotate command with, I can click and drag it around the screen but it refuses to do anythng with the move command. What am I doing wrong here? Can anyone explain the logic so I don't repeat this? I've linked the part in question below.

Hi @jacashion07,

See the screencast below.  Make sure that you have "Component" selected as the object type, select the component, and if you want to use the Rotate mode in the  Move command, you have to select an axis to rotate around:

You can still use Free Move if you want the full triad Move experience, as well.

Hey Jeff thanks for your help, I tried doing as you did above but for some reason my model doesn't like it. Any tips?

@jacashion07

After you click on the model try clicking the set pivot button then move.

Yes, you are somehow stuck in Set Pivot mode.  I've watched the video a few times, and can't see how you got there.  Going to keep looking, though.   Just click on that green check box:

yes this seems to be it. I'm not sure how I got there either, it seems like a relatively simple part. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for posting. From the UI of Move dialog in your screenshot, it looks like Fusion was not updated to the latest version at that time.

We have fixed a similar issue in the latest version released on Jan 19. It should work as expected now. Please give it a try. If you see similar problem in the future, please feel free to let us know.

I was having the same frustration for days until I found this. I am using the Dec.2020 version. There should be NO NEED for one to have to click a checkbox. Once you click on the pivot point, Fusion should automatically accept the setting.

I too am now seeing an issue with the rotate function. I works on some components, but not others. I made a minimal example, with generated gears, (BTW, only the Python version of the SpurGear Add-In runs, not the .dll version - is that a known problem?):

hclmed_0-1676670419852.png

In  the attached file, with 8 generated gears, having increasing tooth counts, (also a couple with a lower module value), the gear moves increasingly slower than the rotation handle, until, on the 72 tooth gear, the component doesn't turn at all. The f3d file with those 8 gears is attached. Is this an operator or programming problem?

There are no assembly Joints in this model at all.  What are you referring to when you talk about Rotational problems?  Attached in your model with a few of the gears chained together with motion links.  It seems to rotate fine to me.

This is a strange problem with the Move/Copy operation. It works fine on every other component, but for some unknown reason, when trying to rotate a component comprised of a 72 tooth gear, the rotation handle moves, but the geometry doesn't. Model attached.

The Move with a Rotate works fine on your gear.  You cannot see it because you do not have a reference feature.  The teeth are all the same so they cannot be used.  I punched a hole in the gear so you can see the Move works perfectly.

Sure enough, it's an optical illusion rather than a bug. I made gears of all kinds of tooth counts and could always see the teeth move, but I guess that particular size happens to correspond to the interactive 5 degree rotate increment. Glad that wasn't an actual bug. Thanks for pointing out what was happening.

I guess I should have started a new thread with this since the original, (what I thought was similar), question is already marked as solved.

There are no joints involved. This is another case where a component simply can’t be selected then rotated. But where the solution for the past one, an old 2017 bug that got stuck on the pivot selection, doesn’t apply. You’ll see you can’t edit the last component and rotate it.
