How do you trim away parts of revolves, extrusions, lofts, shells, surfaces, etc. using parts of the same types of features, ie. cut-out part of a revolved quasi  torus using a curved lofted cone.

No, I am working on a variety of design features that I wish to hold
close. So general explanations will suffice. I have tried several
commands and I get partial results like it will remove a section but not
remove the ends so you can look thru the item or cut out the profile and
also remove the cut object where it does not intersect. Maybe there is a
tutorial some where that can explain basics like the nice one on lofting i
just watched that is posted on the design differently blog.

If I understood what you are asking, you want to, perhaps, take a revolved profile you made and place a hex hole in it, like making a setscrew?

 

To do that, make a hex polygon and extrude it into a hex shaft, and move/rotate that to where your cut will be made.

 

Now use Modify > Combine, with your target selection set to the profile, and the tool selection set to the hex, the operation to cut, and normally "keep tools" is off.

Thank you for the suggestion, however it does not seem to work between a
revolved body and a lofted body. Conceptually I need a command that would
trim a model curve to the nearest intersecting model curve or boundary
geometry (which mimics the trim function in the sketch environment).

I think Combine can do what you want. You find it in the Model-Workspace, under Modify\Combine. Select first the body you wish to remove material from, then the body to adapt it to, switch Operation to Cut, and Select the check Box for Keep Tools.

Something else to try is Boundary Fill on the Create Menu.

Thanks everyone, but I am not there yet. I have tried all your suggestions
and can not do what I want. I think the problem is a combination of how I
am creating the shapes and the tools I am using to modify. Here is a
synopsis - so create a torus by sketching a circle and a separate line on a
plane and then revolve the circle around the line "axis". Shell the torus
to create an inner tube (not sure this actually works). Then make two
off-set planes (any distance beyond torsus extremes) one on either side of
the original plane. Sketch a circle of equal diameter to the first on each
of those planes both being lined-up but off-set slightly from the first.
Now create a loft from one circles thru the other two. Shell this loft to
make a curved pipe (only opens one end?) So we have a curved pipe
intersecting an inner tube. I am trying to cut out where they intersect
inside so I can look thru the pipe and see the curvature of the inside of
the pipe and torus joined but hollow. If they were steel you could cut
them along the seams and weld them together to make this feature. I
suspect using one sketch as part of both a revolve and a loft is
problematic. And how best to accomplish the type of shelling I am after?

The trick here is knowing when to do the shell operation.  You want to create the torus, then the "curved pipe", and join them together as a solid, then do the shell.
