Cut and Paste Bodies Warning when deleting bodies

I'm getting an error with Cut and Paste bodies in the timeline. I decided I wanted to redesign something from early in the design history which involved deleting several features that resulted in a couple bodies. Those bodies, along with a number of others were mirrored about the design mid plane and then the bodies were then moved into their respective sub components (one for each console). I realize now you can do "mirror component" but that option was not available to me when I was working on this at the time.

So, when I moved the bodies into the sub-components, it resulted in the cut and paste bodies features circled in the timeline. Problem is, some of those bodies have now been deleted, and so I now get an error. How do I edit this so that I no longer receive this warning and Fusion is happy? It would of course be preferable to do this without scrapping all the additional work I've done past this point in the timeline.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @erikscott128,

If you have deleted a reference body then that's why you get an error. Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZfNC4R2sg8

Cheers / Ben

I completely understand the difference between remove and delete. I want to use delete as I have no use for the old model at any point in the time line. What I'm asking about is how I can make the cut and paste feature no longer depend upon the deleted bodies. For most features this isn't an issue, as I can just dive in and edit the feature to clear up any dependencies issues. I cannot, however, seem to edit the feature to re-select which bodies I wish to move, or deselect the bodies that no longer exist.

Thanks

Use the Timeline to figure out what sketch or a body is connected to the one you want to delete. You could also check the error message, it usually says where is the problem.

If you want, you could attach the file, and i'll take a look at it.

Maybe I didn't do a great job explaining what I'm trying to do.

I created a component A. It contains bodies B, C, D, and E. I want to create a mirrored version of A, and this was back before you couldn't mirror components, so what I did was mirror bodies B, C, D and E to create B', C', D', and E'. I then moved bodies B, C, D and E into component A_1, which is a child of A, and moved B', C', D', and E' into component A_2, which is also a sub component of A.

Much later, after a lot of future work, I realize I don't need body E or its mirrored component E', and I would like to delete it completely from the design. I go back in the timeline and delete E before E' was even created or the bodies were moved into their respective sub components. Naturally, the Mirror-Bodies step in the timeline throws a warning because it can no longer find part E. That's okay though. I just edit the feature such that it no longer looks for it. However, the cut and paste bodies step also throws a warning as it can no longer find body E and E' to cut and paste into the new components. I figure this can't be that bad, I'll just edit it so it no longer looks for the body, much like what I did with the mirror feature. Problem is, when I right click on it, there's no option to edit it. THIS is the problem I'm having. How do I make this warning go away and make Fusion no longer try to cut and paste the bodies that no longer exist.

Thanks

I haven't tested it, but maybe the "cut" command has the same effect as "delete". You should try to work with Copy and Remove, this way for sure you won't get any error and other issues.

I'm not sure if you have the same workflow, but I usually work with 2 files, the original and a test file. This way my original file is ALWAYS clean and structured. Think about it.

Ben.
