Creating tubes with revolving surface details

Hi,

 

I am trying to create a rocket with a number of segments and rings like this one.

What would be a better way to do this? I have the following in mind:

1. Extruding a tube from a circle sketch, then add pattern of the rings along the tube path.

2. Drawing a half tube sketch with all the rings , then revolve, but this seems less parametric if I have a lot of rings to add.

Hi,

Parametric can be both methods.
However, I would lean towards the first.

very interesting question, @sunfffd .  My first instinct is to use Revolve, based on my preference for Revolve for any geometry which has rotational symmetry like this (and the added benefit of getting the nose cone geometry at the same time).  But, the pattern of rings, then, implies a sketch pattern, which I do not recommend in general.  Though, the number of instances here are low enough that you'd probably be fine.

 

The Extrude, then pattern the rings would also work (or even Revolve of just the cylinder + nose cone) and be slightly better from a pattern point of view (patterning features/faces is almost always preferable to patterning sketch geometry).

 

I'm not sure there is an easy answer here.  Either method is probably about the same, in my opinion.

Thank you all, finally I have gone with Extrude and Pattern, I found that it gave me more freedom on adjusting the rings positions afterwards. But yes both method works!
