creating screws and holes

I'm trying to figure out how to create a hole corresponding to a screw (the female part). I can make a hole and add threads - but this doesn't seem to work as intended.

Also, what kind of joint should be used to attach the screw to the hole?  Should i use revolve?  I feel like there should be some sort of specification of the connections between the threads.

Hi @mbarkdull,

The are many ways to create a hole with threads. You can create a hole and a thread with this technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulWdXl4X3oo If it doesn't work, please let me know, and I'll help you.

In regards to the Joint, you don't need to simulate how a screw is been inserted into a bolt. You should just use the Rigid joint and that's it.

Cheers / Ben

Hey, Welcome to the forums!

Here's how I like to add joints for threads. Hopefully this'll help get you started in the right direction!

Xander,

I've been able to do this, but with the most updated version of fusion 360, I don't see component drag as an option.  So now when I select the screw and try to turn it, nothing happens.  Where did the component drag option go?  Or is there another method I should be using?

Hey @mbarkdull!

Apologies on the late reply, must have missed the notification email. I believe component drag is just a feature of Fusion 360 now, so no need to change any options! Are you sure you have multiple components in your file and not just multiple bodies? If you have multiple bodies, just right click the bodies folder folder and choose "Create Components from Bodies" and then you should be able to drag the parts around.

Let me know if that works!
