Creating Ribs on a curved surface?

I've constructed a shell and want to house some ribs onto the internal surface. However, they require a "curve" to create ribs and I don't have any idea what they mean and how to sketch a curve onto the shell.

Hi @Anonymous, if you have a nice planar splitting surface, which from your picture it looks like you have, then I would recommend using the Web command.  Simply create a sketch on the splitting plane, sketch the lines where you want the ribs to be (the lines don't even have to connect to the edges), then use Web to turn those lines into solid geometry with a specified thickness.

The other related command is the Rib command, which works similarly to Web, but the geometry is sketched from the side, not from the top.

Hey there, the curve that the command is referring to means that the rib needs to be based on a sketch curve, or line. Ribs and Webs are created by using sketch geometry as the reference. Here is a good example of how to use the rib/web tool:

Thanks! Your post made me realise that I had to create an offset plane in order to start sketching and to construct ribs for the shell created via sculpt mode, as it isn't a solid model with a flat surface.
