Thanks Jesse.  That was awesome.  As a child I was traumatized by my eighth grade algebra teacher and subsequently have been mathematically challenged.  I do recognize the beauty of the golden mean though and your ability to tie the spreadsheet calculations to Fusion operations was inspirational.  I want to play with that.

Yeah, tying mathematical precision with 3d modeling is definitely awesome.  Sorry to hear about your teacher, that is an all too common experience, but looks like you're doing awesome stuff regardless.  And math stuff is suppose to be really fun and interesting, hope teachers and what not are able to show that more in the near future with hands on stuff, including with Fusion360!

I discovered disabling the "Incremental move' under 'Grid and snaps' near the bottom right of workspace allows for smoother adjustment of fillets and what not, so that would be relevant to the little bit of trouble I was having at the end of the video.

This is really cool. I have an actual use for this and I appreciate your figuring out how to do this in Excel and get it into Fusion 360.

Thank you! Now I just need to figure out how to make one component be affected by the curve to move with it.

Hi Randy, glad you were able to get some golden spirals into your design, and that looks awesome what you're working on (are you actually designing a pump impeller?!).  I'm not quite sure what you're trying to accomplish, but it sounds like contact sets and possibly rest positions may help?  Here's a great little vid showing how cams can work using rest positions:

I've also successfully created captive pin type cams with contact sets.  Let me know if you run into any issues.

I want to say thanks again first for the Golden Spiral example and also
this video link. I just watched it and hopefully I can apply some of this
information.

I bought a www.pocketnc.com 5 Axis mill and it comes with Fusion 360. The
machine has a really limited table interface so I'm designing a low profile
self centering chuck. A friend bought the same machine and also wants a
chuck. I may offer them for sale.

Now the interesting thing is I want to make the chuck lock by spinning the
large outer ring, so it actuates the jaws and clamps the part. The Golden
Spiral Equation works out to be equal to a linear 16.9 degrees That is if
you were to lay it out flat. Measure the total length of the spline and
compare the difference in starting radius vs end radius. and you can
calculate the angle.

I need 14 degrees or less for what's considered a locking angle. So I
updated the Golden Spiral constant you applied of [image: pasted1]to a
reduction of 80% and got it to come out to the locking angle of 14 degrees
😉

Now to add the joints and contacts.
