Creating A Tapered Hole

I need to create a tapered hole in a rod, and I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

I tried to sketch the profile of the taper, and then revolve it, and then draw the rod around it and use the extrude function to remove the tapered object. That doesn't seem to be the correct way.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Ewan

Thank you very much.
I was unaware of the first method, but the second method is very logical now that I see it being performed.
Screen casts are such an amazing feature.

There are a couple of ways to do this, assuming I am interpreting your requirements correctly.

You can use Extrude of a circle with a taper angle or Revolve.

Here is a screencast showing both methods:

Hope one of these works for you.

This is Awesome Info!!! I like the second option because you can make any contour you want.
