Creating a stock model

Hi,

So, I run simulate, then right click and save stock to use for the next operation stock model.

When I load it up in my current design, it's 10X larger than it needs to be. All my settings are in English units.

I can't seem to get it to work, so now I want to delete it.

I delete it from the parent, and do a save and close.

I go to the original stock model and try to delete that. No go. It's linked to another design.

The design I just deleted it from.

Anyone else find this unusable and confusing?

Thanks,

Bob.

Not clear how you've done this. Have you uploaded the stock STL model using the data panel then inserted into your CAM design as a linked component?

That's exactly how I did it.

During simulate, after it was all done, I right-clicked, saved it to a known location, uploaded it to the panel, and inserted into current design.

That's probably not the best workflow. Files with no unit information default to CM on import, you could have edited the file and scaled down. I Guess you saved your CAM file with the STL inserted at some point, this means that a version in your history is still linked so now you can't delete that STL design. This is by design as you might want to promote that version at some point, unfortunately there's no way to remove versions from the design history so your only option is to save as to a new file then delete the old version then delete the STL design file.

Now a easier workflow is to use InsertMesh from the insert menu. InsertMesh also has the advantage that you can scale\set unit at import.

Sweet! I'll try that next time.

I like the flow just the way it is. That 'promote' feature has saved my bacon more times than I care to admit.

Thanks for your help,

Bob.
