Creating a stainless steel wire mesh

How can I create for example a simple wire mesh for my designs. Do I have to individually draw the holes or is there a pattern I could use? I'm quite new to designing altogether, so I'd appreciate any pointers.

Do you want to just make a flat sheet with holes in it (say rectangular holes), or actually model the woven wire?  To do the former, you can just make a thin box/sheet, then make a rectangular box that in Combine operation will perform cut of the sheet, and can do Rectangular pattern of that.  Or you could probably do an Extrude cut, and do a feature Rectangular pattern perhaps.  Have you tried anything like this yet?  And to model woven wire would be quite a bit more difficult.

Hi @ademola.adekunle.  Before we go too far down this path, you should try to decide whether you really need to model the mesh at a fine level of detail.  Is the mesh that you are modeling a central/critical portion of your design?  Are you looking for the mesh to serve some critical functional aspect of your design, for instance to feed into some kind of EMI analysis tool?  If not, then I would caution against trying to model this in any detail.  This will be an expensive exercise, both from your time, and also from the point of view of Fusion performance, design file size, open/save time, etc.  If, for instance, the mesh is just a small part of a larger design, and is more cosmetic, I would suggest that you use some of the mesh materials to show a mesh, but not actually model it.  Here are a couple of examples, from a design I made for fun, of a 1960s-era race car.

 

Here, I use a "Stainless Steel Mesh - Wire" material to model the scren over the air intakes:

Here I use a "Stainless Steel Mesh - Slot" to simulate the radiator pattern, without having to model such complex geometry:

The last one is not a great example, but hopefully you get the idea.  These are all very simple geometries, but visually they look very impressive, and can save you a lot of work and improve your modeling performance.

Hi @jeff_strater! Thank you for the expansive details. For my level of design, it is not that important but there is a mesh in the design made from stainless steel. How do I use the mesh materials you wrote about or do I just go by the suggestion of @Anonymous?

to access the mesh materials, you need to look under Metal -> Stainless Steel, and make sure that you have "show downloadable materials" checked:

Then, there are several mesh materials in this category.  Ones that are not installed locally are shown with a "download" icon.  If you click that, the material will be downloaded, and you can apply it like other materials:

Sorry, but i was searching the same topic

( solutions for wireframe materials for Fusion)

 

Now, i see that these material is perfect to my model,

but i need to resize the "holes", because my model is to small.

 

Please can you say to me,............

IN the "Appearance" window, select the material ,right-click on the icon for it and select "Edit". There should be a slider for "Scale".

Stain Steel Wire Mesh is creating by using Metal Loom. it looks very impressive & Have a unique choice to improve the visually & Modeling Performance.

amya3326 could you explain this methon in more detail? I'd love to try to model steel wire mesh on my microphone model. I know it will be very computer power demanding task but i think rendered images will blow my mind:)

Hi, I am trying to download this mesh but I am unable to find this material in my drop down menu. I also do not have the "download" option. I am using the Mac OS version. Is there a way to add this stainless steel mesh?

1. It probably would have been better to start a new thread with a link back to this Solved thread for reference.

2. The indicated Mesh is a Appearance, not a material.

3. Can you create a Screencast Recording of your steps?

4. Can you File>Export and then Attach the *.f3d file of your model here?

 

5. I suspect that by the time the Appearance is tweaked and the model is zoomed out far enough to capture appropriate image - the difference between modeled mesh and appearance mesh would be insignificant in terms of aesthetics (but very significant in terms of feature processing).

I too want the stainless mesh but having 'downloaded' it there is nothing there. No change from a flat grey. Editing the icon has no effect at all. Do I need to be a subscriber to get this rather than use the free version?

I can't get wood either from the Appearances tab. Just various shades of grey.

What is your graphics card and driver?

Hi and thanks for responding. The graphics is MS I GeForce GTX 1660 6GB Ventus XS. The machine is 2 years old, drivers up to date. Photo attached; the cylindrical grey tube is meant to be a fine stainless steel gauze. I don't need to model this wire by wire, just show a visual appearance of it. As I said before, the Appearances tab seems very limited in what it offers.
