I have tried multiple times to create a custom form mill in the tool library per the instructions on the help Fusion 360 Help site "To Create a Custom Form Mill" . Every attempt end with the following errors;
Importing tool file: C:\Users\C\Downloads\Threadmill\DXF Files\Form Mill Test.2.f3d
Error: Could not find a valid sketch in tool file: C:\Users\C\Downloads\Threadmill\DXF Files\Form Mill Test.2.f3d
I believe I have created the new mill tool part exactly per directions provided on the help site as copied below (is this a bug? Any advice would be appreciated):
Custom shaped mills are collectively know as Form Mill tools and can be created in the Tool Library from a sketch, or a revolved solid body saved in a separate Autodesk Fusion 360 part file.
To create a form mill, follow these steps:
- Create a new Fusion 360 part.
- Create a sketch with a single closed profile that represents the cross-section of the tool.
- Use the Revolve command to create a revolved feature from the sketch.

- Save the part file and switch to the CAM Workspace.
- Open the CAM Tool Library.
- Create a new mill tool by clicking the New Mill Tool button.
- Click the Cutter tab and choose Form Mill from the Type: drop down menu.
- Click Import File...
- Browse to and select the tool file you saved before. The sketch profile is loaded as the profile for the form mill, and previewed as shown here.
