Create spline from existing pipe body?

Anonymous

I received a STEP file of a pipe body (no timeline), but I need the spline that runs through it's center (and was used to create the pipe). Is there a way to extrapolate the spline that was used to create this pipe?  Thanks.

Please attach the STEP file so the forum users can help you.  You will have to Zip it and then use the Attachment section in a forum reply.

no easy way, unfortunately.   If the pipe has circular cross-sections, you can place work points at the centers of the circles, and fit lines, arcs, and splines through those points to try to re-create the path.  It is very manual, though, and not guaranteed to result in the actual path for the pipe.

Projecting the pipe seems to work fine for me when it's 2d (on a single plane).  Project "Entities" will give you a centerline.  Note: This works with a pipe created in Fusion 360 and exported as a step file, then imported back into Fusion 360.
