Crashes all the time. Maybe Internet connection related

Hello,

I love Fusion 360. It's greate product. I am recommending it to everyone around me.

But I can't stand constant crashings all the time =( It's so annoying.

What can I do with that?

Half of the times it just hangs with >100% CPU and never recovers.

There is no noticable patterns of when it happens. I noticed only one big problem that almost always causes that, though. It's transition between offline to online. And I mean even when I just unlock my Mac. I see how wifi reconnecting and at this moment I know better not focus into openned Fusion otherwise there is a chance it will die.

My stats are:

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB (and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M)

Is the OS case sensitive?

Thanks,

@soswow

Thanks for sending in crash reports. I only see 4 from you for the whole month of October that gave you a CER report, is that correct? If not, and there are more crashes than that, please continue to send in the reports, they really help us analyze your crashes. You mention force quitting a lot, has this aspect changed recently?

@Phil.E Your words are actually relaxing me a lot 😃 Thank you. I Am sorry for some frustrated comments in some of the report. 😉

I like to do work in the train with not internet connection or very weak one, so many times I am unable to send reports. But I promise I will try to write up what was the last action I've made before crash or freeze.

I think it freezed yesterday of 2 days ago and made me to force close it.

I thought maybe there is some memory tricks / some hidden config I can change / play with or something like that.

@innovatenate I believe OSX is case sensetive, yes. I haven't change anything like that in my OS if it's possible at all.

@Phil.E Freezed with 100% again just now. I've made a report (CER_120813657) and described what I think happened. I believe last time situation was something similar. I was working on a scetch, selected a line and a dot (I think both projected) and chosen demension (probably with shortcut) and it hang ... There was nothing on the screen except for one component (all isolated)

This is a bad week for me. I am in training all week and don't have much time to work on this issue. I will ask @innovatenate to follow-up with you.

One thing you could try:

Do you know about using the Offline switch? This is exactly for your situation, working on the train with spotty wifi. When you get to a better connection, go back online and give Fusion a few moments to upload your data.

Do you see sketch constraints in the sketch environment?

sketch constraints fusion.png

I note in a previous thread (below) that sketch constraints were not visible on a case sensitive system.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/i-do-not-see-constraints-in-any-sketch/td-p/5...

If these are not visible, perhaps they are leading to a situation that is leading to a crash. I'm not certain and still researching the error reports, so please keep them coming as best you can.

Thanks,

@Phil.E No worries at all. Yes. I know about offline option and I've done that several times already. Sometime I do forget.

@Anonymous That's actually a very good guess. At least both times it was related to me working in a scetch with objects behind it hidden (and possible some of them having projected elements on the current scetch) Or at least something around it. I will read another thread and also try to experiment with simple example to see if I can freeze it on purpose.

Please keep us updated, I'm curious to see what may be causing the issue. I sent you an e-mail with another possible suggestion as well.

Thanks,

1) I have non-case-sensitive system

2) I do see constraints

3) I've trying to replicae what I thought might be an issue last time and I couldn't

4) Even with offline mode switched on explicitly I could hang Fusion on connection to the wifi network with low or no internet at all. I've made a video: https://youtu.be/S7PFsCzcwwg

Here is a new one today morning in the train. I had about 160 object to pattern (2 more times) and when I pressed ok it hang with 100% and constantly rising memory usage. https://youtu.be/Sn4TzQCPTr0 - here is a video of it. I've made a report CER_120914915.

I haven't used it for some time. And now again, almost in 15 minutes of using it crashing on some minor operation (I've copied some lines and dots from one sketch, moved hostory mark, made some activations, isolations, selected face I wanted to paste my lines into, pressed "New sketch" button and it hang with 100% again =((

There was no dialog to send log info to you, maybe because I aggreed on OS dialog to send it to Apple. I attached data that has been there.

From the "File" drop down choose View > Reset to Default Layout to see if it helps with the crashing in the sketch environment. I just had a another thread on this forum where this helped.

Please keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks,

Thanks for reporting these issues. FUS-20992 is created internally to track one of the hangs you reported. We'll try to resolve it in an upcoming release.

@soswow

Do you think this is data related, does it happen with a particular design, or also new designs?

Can you share the data? Either invite me to the project, or export .f3d and send it to me. If so, let me know, I'll email you offline.

Thanks,

I can share the project no problem. Not sure if it's related to the data. I was hoping the debug info I am sending everytime shows what's wrong.

The crash reports are essential, but do not carry all the information we need. This is why I asked some questions.

Do you think this is data related, does it happen with a particular design, or also new designs?

(I need an answer to the rest of the question)

The reason I ask is that you seem to crash in similar workflows, which may indicate you are using the same data again and again. It makes a difference if you crash with new or old data.

As I said, I can share project with you. Problem is I don't do new designs often (or at all) I will start new project soonish and I could tell you if it crashes there.
