Copying/exporting title block and pasting/importing into other drawing

Anonymous

I'm playing around with the new custom titleblock feature. I've made my own custom in one drawing, however, I also want to use it in a different drawing. This just doesn't seem to be possible.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Don't think there's any way to export from an existing drawing. You should have created a template from the start using New Drawing Template from the file menu. If you have access to AutoCAD you could export the title block block to a new drawing.

Hello Mark,

Not being able to export title boxes is a real pain.

I have tons of drawings with the old default ISO title box. If I want to replace the old title box by my new custom one, I will have to re-create all the drawings from scratch. It's maddening !

A second problem is custom properties. I couldn't find any way to define default values for them so that the title block is automatically populated under creation.

Cheers,

Luiz

If you make a template you can create a new sheet in an existing drawing and import the template.

To import a template right click a sheet at the bottom of the screen and select add sheet.

Clipboard02.png

Pick your template. If the title block in the template and the drawing are same name the title block will update.

Clipboard02.png

For custom properties just enter the default as the text. There's no label and text now just the text.

I did figure out a way to extract the title block from an exported DWG using QCad. What program did you use to use to create your title blocks in the past?

Hi Luiz

If you want I can export a DWG file with your title block if you attach a blank DWG drawing from the file you've created. Once you have a template with your new title block follow the steps in post#4 to import into your other existing drawings.

Pawla, from Autodesk support, replied the following, which seems to be a fine workaround

Hello Alfred,

thank you for contacting Autodesk Technical Support and apologies for the late reply.

I can see you would like to use a title block you created within one drawing in another one. While there is no direct way to use a title block in a drawing it was not created within, an easy workaround is the following:

  1. Open the project containing the drawing with the title block you created,
  2. Go to File -> New Drawing Template,
  3. In the dialog box, select the existing drawing with the newly created block as Template,
  4. Click OK,
  5. Save the new template in the project,
  6. When creating a new drawing within this project, select the newly created template as a base.

I recorded a short screencast for you presenting the workflow: https://autode.sk/2xkYShl. Let me know if that helps. Thanks! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed? It seems that it has been made worse since the last post. There is no longer any way to change to a preferred title block after a drawing is done. You can only do it when creating the drawing, not afterwards. Anyone else struggling with this?

Yeah, no.

I'm just running into this issue now too

Out of all the good and bad things in Fusion360 pretty much anything related to drawings just sucks big time

Don't get me started on not being able to replace the referenced model in the drawing....

If you open the template or drawing that has the title block you want,

Also create a new template or open the existing drawing you want to put the title block into.

left click on the tile block you want to use, than, right click and select "edit title block", than select left click and drag across the title block, press CTRL "C", than click "finish title block" (I don't think Fusion will let you edit 2 title blocks at the same time).

Switch over to the new template or old drawing, left click on the title block, then right click and select "edit title block", select across the wrong title block, press "delete", then press CTRL "V". than click finish title block.

That should do it.

You might need to edit the new one and add any images you had in the good title block.

Hello @HughesTooling,

Thanks a lot for your help !

Your trick was REALLY helpful, because I was exactly in that case.
In fact, I think I have forgotten this method.

Thus, I think it would be easier to find those options if it was directly on the "+" button (next to all the sheets) with a new modal appearing.

It is a little bit weird to have to right-click (not common) on an existing sheet to ask to find another template.

Maybe... the first option would be easier for the user to find.
It's my opinion.

In any case, thanks again ! 🙂

See you soon.

Sincerely.
