Copy New Base View within Drawing Sheet

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello community,

I was wondering if there is a way to copy new an existing "base view" within a sheet. The idea is, I am making a step by step assembly guide for my pieces and would like to have one piece that isn't suppressed, then copy the view, "unsuppress" the next piece that would be assembled, and so on (think Ikea type assembly guide). Currently, I have just been adding a new base view and then suppressing all the necessary pieces, which is a bit time consuming.

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous, thanks for posting your question here. We don't allow copying of views yet, but you may want to try using the Animation workspace to create storyboards of the view types (or even exploded views to show assembly processes). Are you familiar with adding Storyboard views from Animations into your Drawings sheets?

Timera,

Thank you for the quick response. I made an animation with the assembly appearing, each piece one second apart. Is there a way to define the frame in which the storyboard displays within the drawing? If so, that would be perfect for what I need to do.

Thank you again,

Geoff.

Hey @Anonymous - glad to hear you're up and running. Currently, we only take the end time as the representation for the base view for each Storyboard, so I would recommend creating a new Storyboard for each "step" or "representation" of the model you want to show, it will be easy to identify between them in the Base View dropdown list too (especially if you rename your storyboards to something meaningful to you). Here's a screenshot of an example:

We have plans to improve this workflow in the future, by adding the ability to create views from a timestamp/frame (rather than the default at the end), etc. but this is the best workflow to accomplish your goals right now. Let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions!
